Playback and Export problems

I am new to 16x9 and 24pa footage in FCP HD. I just got a Canon XL-2 and shot some test footage. I used the correct preset for 2:3:3:2 24p footage, and the import is fine. I would like to export some sample stills and sample clips, but I cannot get an export in the anamorphic aspect ratio. No matter what options I choose, I end up with a 4:3 quicktime file with a stretched picture. Could anyone help me with this?

Thank you, it is much appreciated

You're going to have to do some manual squeezing in Photoshop or other image editing application. Squeeze the image vertically to 75% of its original size.

Standard Definition video (both 4:3 and 16:9) uses non-square pixels, but your computer can't deal with that; it makes them all square, stretching the image to something halfway between 4:3 and 16:9.

Stills are a bugger. But here's what I do for clips...

pick a width divide it by 16 and multiply by 9

so --

640/16 = 40x9=360

See if that doesn't work for the stills too in photoshop.

I tried both those options and both work well. In then end, however, I ended up taking screen captures of the viewer at 100%! Works great, and no quality loss from a resize.

Anyone have any ideas about the Quicktime export? I still can't get it out at the 16:9 aspect

Thanks

You still need to do the same thing... there will be options for SIZE in the quicktime export. You must change the size to reflect 16:9.
