Plasma Screen/DVX100 question....

I just picked up a 42 inch Plasma last weekend as well as a DVD recorder. One thing that I notice right off the bat when I have my DVX100 hooked up to the DVD recorder, the picture is not as crystal clear as I have seen on other TV's and even on my monitor in my editing suite. It almost looks like the picture is "solarized". You really see this in the blacks. What is up with that? Is there anything within the TV menu I can do to eliminate that?

Oh yea I am finally noticing the audio drift! I can hear the delay coming from the camera before I hear it come through the TV! I never noticed that when I was editing.

Anybody on here have a plasma screen or know what I am talking about? The blacks are not solid blacks. If you get right up to the TV and stare at the screen you can see what looks like snow or that slight solarized look in the blacks!

Re: Plasma Screen/DVX100 question....

I was surprised when I walked in a Walmart Supercenter lastnight and noticed that they have a HDTV section! They had a whole aisle of large flat screen TVs. I thought I was in Best Buy!

Re: Plasma Screen/DVX100 question....

They got those last spring. I had to help build those stupid displays and put those TVs up. We had to move avery single aisle in the Department. Last time I volunteer for any projects like that. It almost killed me.

Re: Plasma Screen/DVX100 question....

yeah, i just got a 50' hd lcd dlp and i have been messing around with it and dvx footage. how are you connect the dvx to the tv? if your going straight out of the dvx using s-video or rca's...then its going to look crappy...cause the signel from those connectors are just crappy for hd. i bought a DVD player that has a DVI-Out port, which is the best signel you can get right now (hdmi is the same from what i understand). i made a dvd of a bunch of stuff i shot with the dvx...and i must say, it looks pretty damed good palying through a DVI enabled dvd player. same goes for playing other dvds...the quality coming out of the dvds using DVI is much much better then that of s-video or rca's...its a much cleaner signal.

also, and i dont know a whole lot about this just yet, but i think its worth getting plasmas/lcds professionaly calibrated to get the best possible picture out of them. from what i understand there are only a few hd tvs out right now that have excellent out of the box performance...

also keep in mind, that the tv is uprezing the footage quite a bit...so its never going to look perfect...even with the best footage and best connectors, the footage will be soft..and maybe even have a bit of banding.

anyway, hope that helps.

Re: Plasma Screen/DVX100 question....

Mr. Lee is right. Most of those bad boys are not set very well out of the box. They have ridiculous settings that seem to serve no purpose other then to garbage the image. Try fooling around with the functions whilst going trough the manual and you should come up with a better pic. Also check with the store you bought. Sometimes price includes setup so if all else fails they can swing by and tweak it.
