On chat with Video Devices today, regarding some characteristics of PIX-E5 and they told me is discontinued along with Pix-E7. Looked on their website and seems no models to replace. Maybe NAB ? If they close the business i dont wanna buy a recorder from them....

Looking to be done...just speculation, I don't know.

The recorders were nice but too expensive for what they offered vs. Atomos.

And IIRC, they never budged on their prices. A $300-$400-$500 is a big difference to many. The E7 is still $1695...just asking way too much, IMO.

The Shogun Inferno was $1995 when it was first released but quickly dropped in price 2-3x over 12-18 months, and is now $1295 (sometimes with free accessories).

With more and more cameras that will record 10 bits/12 bits 422 internally, many people will focus only on monitors like SmallHD ( which by the way don't bother to answer a technical question on email ) , recorder market will go down a bit. That's why i think they need to offer a solid product ( recorder, focus monitor, conversion and distribution of signal, maybe wireless etc ) at a good price. Remember Gemini 444 - like 5000 dollars or so ? Long gone are those days....

Well as a PIX E5 owner, this is a pretty big bummer. I had seen months ago that the e5H & E7 model had been discontinued - but now it looks like all of them are showing up on their discontinued page:

I love my E5... rugged, small, lightweight and runs a long long time on two batts. The touch zoom, false color, peaking, and 4 way view with waveform are my favorite features. If more internal 10 bit cams do arrive... I'm happy to keep mine as a monitor only... but also hope VidDev / SoundDev stay around. Their support has been good (even though I haven't really needed much).
