I am reading the screenplay PITCH BLACK today. Very fast read, for anybody looking for an easy screenplay to read, study. Fun movie too. Attaching the script for anybody interested. I dare you to read three pages and not get hooked.
I found the screenplay not only easy and fast to read, but actually fun to read because of the many dialogue zingers (witty comebacks). The script is full of interesting dialogue (all intercut with the dangers of an alien planet and hordes of hell-hound creatures out to eat the stranded space travelers), but here is one example: Paris (~50), a plump truffle-eating antiquities dealer, suddenly finds a knife at his throat, held by 12 year old stow-away (runaway) Audrey, as they are adapting to being stranded on the planet.
PARIS
So did you run away from your parents, or did they run away from you?
I love that line, among many others.
Most screenplays I have a really really hard time reading, not fun, every page a chore to read, let's face it screenplays are not literature. But a few screenplays I have found a pleasure to read, Pitch Black being one.
Pitch Black is still and awesome little sci-fi/action/horror flick, especially considering that it was a low budget film from about 10 years ago. I agree, Chronicles of Riddick was fun (best part was the prison planet sequence in the middle of the film... they could do a whole film on just that idea), but not nearly as good. They're making a third Riddick film that is to be more in line with Pitch Black. Hopefully they'll be able to capture some of that essence in the new one.
Thanks for the script link Randall. I haven't read the screenplay for it yet.
I love a fast read, especially for an action-oriented film.
