pitch adjustments

Okay here's the situation:

I've been handed a bunch of old church sermon audio clips (aiff) that were orginally recorded to tape at high speed fo replication. My task is to slow them down and render them out as MP3 so our church can put them up on their website.

I don't have Soundbooth, so I've been experimenting doing this in Vegas and have been able to get pretty good, if not perfect, results by slewing the pitch down (pitch shift -2, cents -50, accuracy HIGH).

Only one problem: When I render, the new file is exactly the same length as the orginal. It sounds great, it's just cut off at the length of the orginal. The pitch shift dialog box even says the new duration should be longer, but it's not. Also, I am NOT preserving duration in the pitch shift FX so for the life of me I don't understand why it's chopping off the new file, but clearly is.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

have you tried just dragging the end pointer of the pitch-shifted track? E.g. if the original is 2 minutes long and the pitch shifted version is 2:30, the Vegas track may be simply still showing you 2 minutes of the pitch shifted version but the extra 30 secs are actually on the end of that - if that makes sense... :)

Do you have a loop region defined on your timeline? Maybe you're only rendering that. Easy to do without realizing it if you're clicking on a clip, as you would be when working with pitch shifting.
