Pirates anyone?

It is, indeed, by Zimmer's admission, a direct homage to Once Upon A Time In The West.
In an interview I heard, I believe he said it was not a sample, though.

I very much enjoyed the first one, was dissapointed with the second one, but still enjoyed it. But the third one, I personally though was the best. Good action. Good comedy. Interesting story. A bit too long, but hey, I still liked it.

The first one was really great fun, the second one blew horrendous stinky fish-chunks, and the third one, by comparison, was overwhelmingly Not Too Bad.

Derivative six ways from Sunday, of Sergio Leone, Spike Jonze, Gustave Dore, and HP Lovecraft, and the Calypso stuff did not really hang together...but given that they cross-wired several different sets of incompatable mythologies, that's not too surprising.

It could have used more Keith Richards, and it desperately needed more Chow Yun-Fat.

It kept a lot of my friends employed, for a good long run. I guess on balance, it's a good thing.

I agree. I would have liked to have seen more of a Keith Richards presence. I think he would have really added to the story. I'm surprised they didn't work that into the script, the relationship between Jack Sparrow and Keith...

My friend laughed out loud when he started playing the guitar - not because it was funny, but because he's SO COOL.

The fact that they made him the sort of granddaddy of all pirates was really a nice touch because Johnny Depp modelled Jack after him, and the "pirates were the rockstars of their generation"... just cool all around.

Was not too big of a fan. First one was okay, second one was okay, third one was too over the top. I guess I'm a more "traditional" pirate fan, that and I really don't care for Orlando Bloom.

This movie bored me. To quote Roger Ebert, "it's better to wait an entire movie for something to happen, then to watch a film where things we don't care about are happening constantly." I didn't care.

I dont say this alot about films i work on...but I really liked it...too long though.

But fun images..especialy at the end. The ;ocker scene...woah, amazing...

Its eye candy for sure...i know that doesnt make a movie great, but its so full of cool visual details that you have to watch it again just to absorb it all.

yeah the visuals were more impressive this time around i think just too much stuff and some times too disney when it didnt have to be. but other than that im happy with what they made out of all of them but i dont think they should spoil it.

I will wait for DVD for the Trio of Threequels.

Spiderman
Shrek
Pirates

None of these interest me enough to say, "Go out and see it right now Chris!" Sorry Trio films, but you're going to have to do more than digitize to get me in a theatre.

Rich Lee, I enjoyed it too. Congrats.

The movie would have made more sense if they had come up with better visuals for the betrayals. Like Jack and Will both working with East India etc made no sense in the end, and neither did Cho Yun Fat's last scene. But it was all visuals and fun, which probably means I'll watch it multiple times.

my daughter

my daughter

my 6 year old daughter loves pirates,
she's super bummed that we consider her too young
to see 'number 3'.

Overall it was ok. But there were definitely too many storylines going on. It almost felt like a soap opera for pirates.

Seeing Rich Lee's name at the end was cool.

Liked it. Entertaining, Over the top, excelent special effects, and great sense of humour. A very interesting new page for Disney. This can be described as the first truly XXI century "Disney" movie.

However, some things escaped me: SPOILERS

1st- The Kraken's death: Why did the nemesis of the entire 2nd movie just appears dead on a beach? Very lame ending for the creature.

2nd- Callisto's power. Big enough to bring people from the dead (Barbossa), but not enough to free herself or to confront other pirates?

3rd- Inside Davy Jones Chest. Was Jack dead or not? Very, very "forced" resolution to bring back Sparrow.

4th- Ending battle: the British armada had about 100+ boats, against what, 13, 14 from the Pirates? And everyone just stood there watching the show?

Anyway, these where minor annoyances. There was just so much going on, with excelent acting and so much excitement that these minor plot problems didn't take out from the fun. The summer's best popcorn movie so far.
