I put photos into Final Cut, and when I move them around the screen, or even look at them standing still, the image goes blury, then when the timeline stops moving the pictures go back to crystal clear....I know it is not the camera because the pictures are from a Canon 10D...Any help would be greatly appreciated...

This is because they aren't rendered.  Do they have a green line over them?

What is happening is FCP is cutting the resolution so it can play them back in real time.  Render it out and you won't have this problem.

Good luck,

also, if you want the pictures to move during playback, say to zoom in or pan across a still shot, you need to use a little bit of motion blur to make the effect look best on screen.

Re: Pictures Blury During Movement....???????

I'm a working FCP editor in Denver and the post house I work at does a lot of Corporate stuff as well as local commercials. which translates to lower end Video and a LOT of photos. Best way to handle photos...

Bring them in at about twice the standard DV size of 720x480. So about 1440 x 960. This allows you to zoom in to twice the size without losing resolution.

Keep the resolution at 72dpi, because FCP and video doesn't work with higher resolutions and will process them at that dpi. Plus the lower the DPI, the lower the file size, the easier it is to work with them in FCP.

Third, and this may seem the most confusing, try a simple gausion blur. I know that you want to keep the images crisp, and theoretically you shouldn't have to do it, but I have found that doing this usually always works. This will eliminate any kind of stairstepping that may occur in the move. Keep the blur setting at 2 at the most. I've worked with images that I can drop the settings to as low as .5, but it's pretty rare.

This works GREAT with logos with an alpha channel as well. Good luck.

I have a question about 72 DP. Isn't that really crappy looking. I having been trying to figure out the best values to have photos scanned in for FCP. Please explain more, Id love to hear more about this, what the best settings are. Thanks

Your television doesn't have a lot of pixels. 72 dpi stinks for printing. 72 dpi stinks for computer graphics. But 72 dpi is fine for television.
