picture slideshow DVD

hi, not sure if this is the right place for this but....
i am going to be creating a slideshow of a bunch of pictures we took while on vacation, and was wondering if i could have one title that just plays the pictures straight through, with music in the background. i could just create a movie clip for that in avid, but then on the same dvd, i would also like an option for people to go through the pictures themselves manually with the remote arrows or next buttons or something. is this possible? i have dvdlab pro but have not done many projects with it yet.
any help would be great!

You won't even need to use an NLE for that. You can import the pictures into Encore (and possibly other authoring apps) and drop them all onto a timeline with a default preset display length for each photo. Simply import the soundtrack and drop it in as well and you're good to go.

This will play automatically or people can hit the "next chapter" button to go to the next photo (Encore inserts chapter points automatically between stills).

You are limited to 99 pictures per timeline, but can link up to 99 timelines.
