I've read those test before too. Sucks cuz a lot of tests done are with the best machines with lots of ram (ie octo 2.93 with 12gb ram-obviously it will be fast).
I've been flip flopping over the 2.66 Quad or 2.26 Octo.
Yes in at least one of the tests I've seen the 2.66 Quad is faster than the 2.26 Octo... but it's only marginally faster.
My thinking is slightly slower but more expandability and longer shelf life... and faster future.
I also plan to buy either through refurbished or education to cut the cost. And I'm waiting to hear if anything comes up from the Supermeet at IBC about the future of FCP.
