pickedup up a book of baby names :)

Just got back from the bookstore, picked up a book of 60,000 baby names. I should have done this long ago. Very cool. Names organized by boy or girl, but also lots of indexed listed for names associated with history, or water, or nature, or colleges, or mythology, or nations, etc etc etc. Far more names than the limited set of names in screenwriting software name banks. I recommend a book of baby names for anybody that does not have one (uh, not meaning a baby, lol, but a name book!). ~randall

I have a few baby name websites bookmarked. Is there something you like better about a hard copy?

That makes sense. I suppose it's not exactly like a thesaurus, where you have a word in mind already and just want to find synonyms.

just easier to flip through a book sometimes; i will never buy one of those Kindle gizmos, won't read ebooks. i want the tactile experience of a book. different tastes. i am sure websites work great too. :)r

Yup, every writer needs a big baby name book with lots of details about each name - it can be very useful to know all the different versions of a name and the historical origin of a name, especially when you want to be arty and use names with Deep and Profound symbolic meanings :) Regardless of the name requirements, I've frequently found that flicking through such a book eventually shows you the perfect name.

Baby name websites are also useful, especially those which allow fancy searching, e.g. names that include certain letters, that you can't do with a book.

well I must have bought the wrong book... I also bought a baby name book, about 50,000. And I must say it was hard to find a common name in the dam thing lol. Nothing at all against muslims, but they are deffinitly not short on names.

I use a variety of baby naming websites.

Appropriately naming your characters is so important.

And, here I thought "wow, randall's gonna be a parent" LOL!

Nice idea, though. Never thought of that.
