Pick One

Do you think DVX100 looks as filmic at 30p versus say 24p?

A better question is:

If you can get only one of

HD

or 35mm Adapter (depth field CONTROL)

or 24P

Which would you choose (and WHY)?

What if you had to pick two of the three?

These are the choices more likely to be faced by camera buyers.

I'd pick 24p above all else (in fact, I did). Everything else looks cheap.

If I had to pick two? 24p and HD. 35mm adapters seem to me to be more work than they're worth.

I am in agreement... 24P is most important... HD would be my second choice... still not sold on the 35mm adapter... especially since it seems to slow the set down a lot..

Can I pick none of the above?

I think the most important thing is a film-like gamma curve and film-like colors. That's why I've stuck with Pansonic since they do it better than anyone.

I'd go for HD. I can convert to 24p in post, and I can do without a 35mm, but for a film-out, there is nothing like that extra resolution.

i think film like gamma and stuff like that can all be done in software - even 24p, when you shoot in 50i and deinterlace. Of the above i think i'd rather have HD.

I take ALL 3, but if im forced to take only 2 , i can make alot more money with HD and a 35mm adapter than i could with 24p. 24p is the most important thing when it comes to movies in my opinion, but as far as making money goes, ill take the HD and my M2 to make money.

Wow you really ARE Cynic821. ;-)

So you're saying that you would be making money with movies... just not making... what ARE you saying?

I don't think you can simulate in post all that well. I would like to see a 4:1:1 DV camera get treated in post to simulate a higher color sampling 4:2:2, with post gamma correction, and forced higher latitude. Yes, 24p can be done inpost.

I would still take the latitude, higher color sampling, and gamma over HD. But don't get me wrong, the point was to pick the quality that was most 'film like'. Hd would be a close second in my choice. I would have chose 24p but like you said, it can be done in post.
