Picard was the BEST.

'sall I got to say.

What's interesting is how much Picard was modeled on season 1 Kirk. Season 1 Kirk was a massive tight-ass.

Hmm, reserved French diplomat, or passionate Jewish adventurer? Tough call...

It'd be interesting to see how a young Jim Kirk would fare in the hands of ST: TNG writers. Or maybe the character of Will Riker was supposed to be the next generation of Capt Kirk. Keep in mind though that the series did evolve (for the better, imo) A LOT after the first couple of seasons to become less campy...if that matters at all...

 What does being Jewish have to do with it? (Besides, Kirk isn't Jewish any more than Picard is British, even if it did. :) )

Picard was supposed to be an older, more reserved version of Kirk as he would have been if Phase II had ever happened. Riker was a more or less straight transplant of Decker from TMP.

Nothing (and true). :)

Do you think there was any special reasoning behind making Picard European?

Ahh, I see now. It's been forever since I saw that with my dad. One of the only things I really remember about him was that he was a big trekkie. And by extension, a dork, I guess. :D

Likely, it was just to make the crew more international. Most of the other regular humans were North American.

As I've discussed more than enough recently, between the two? Kirk is pretty entertaining to watch, but if I had to have someone in charge of the ship I'm on I'd rather it be the more experienced guy who seems like he knows what he's doing.

Not that I hate on Kirk for being a ladies man, but a pretty-faced cowboy just didn't do it for me... sure he could get people behind him and lead, but negotiating with other species and achieving the goals of the Federation... Picard was way more into logical thought and diplomacy... And as actors in general, I'm more of a fan of Patrick Stewart.

It will be interesting to see how the new Trek movie portrays Kirk...

Which is boring...I want to see giant starships blasting the crap out of each other! I want to see alien ass getting kicked! I want to see green b*tches getting nailed! Kirk! Kirk! Kirk!

They definitely put those women in some great costumes!
