Piano Music... But How?

Okay, one of my friend would love to do some of the score for my short film. He doesn't live in the same city as me, in fact far far away from me.

What would be the best way to record piano music, that I can receive it. Is there a way to record it to the computer? It's a yamaha clavinova, and it is electrical.

Woodson,

Does the clavinova have lineout puts in the back? It should have an audio output. If yes, get the nessasary cables it need and plug it in the back of your soundcard and open up a audio recording program and hit record. I can give you details later.

It has these outputs...

Aux In, Aux Out, R & L, and Midi In / Out

Re: Piano Music... But How?

Are these Aux in/out jacks 1/4"? or XLR? If XLR, you can just run XLR cable to the DVX, in the event that you don't have a sound card that can handle the inputs or audio recording software.

Or if the R & L jacks are RCA (the red- and white-colored jacks), you can use those as an audio input to the DVX or sound card, although it would be better to use XLR if you have it available.

I've used the camera itself as my audio recording device a number of times because I don't have better audio equipment.

The Aux In/Out may be controller ports...foot pedals and such (even if XLR). Better check before connecting them to a soundcard/recorder.

That model should have a midi port. Hmm, let me do a quick search... Ok, there are a few models. I found this info about connecting the CLP-170 to a computer:

That might get you going.

Re: Piano Music... But How?

usually on a keyboard the L/R is a 1/4" stereo main out. That's what you'd use to record.

My keyboard has aux outs that allow you to route specific patches or tones to a sepperate out, but I almost always use the main outs instead.

Re: Piano Music... But How?

i use the digital or coax optical outs from the synth but pending the setup , youd then switch to balanced hi-z (XLR) out or unbalanced lo-z (XLR) or then use the stero wet effects send from 1/4 inch TRS or the mix singular 14 TRS.. as a last resort usethe headphone jack. or just record midi, and playback and sample on your machine with a good midi emulator or controller.

Re: Piano Music... But How?

So what kind of cable would I use to connect the keyboard from the Aux In/Out "L/R" into the soundcard?

Re: Piano Music... But How?

what kind of sound card do you have? I assume it has mini in/out. You should get a 1/4 male to mini male. the cable should look like a Y. The 1/4 male should split into a single male mini.
