Photoshopped Girlfriend

This is a pic I took of my girlfriend. It is very photoshopped, but the reflection in the glasses is real (although I did do some image adjustments on it). Let me know what you guys think. I would really love to get some feedback on this, as this is my first "glamour retouching" shot. I'm a noob at this kinda stuff, so any advice would be much appreciated.

What about this one. I reduced the opacity of the blurred skin layer to give it that less plastic-y look and took the saturation down a bit. I also took out that silly nose pierce, which I accidentally left on the first time after she asked me to make her have a nose pierce. I see the cheek as a bit of a problem area, however. Too much red? Too blotchy? I can't tell now.

Better, but if you hadn't told me I would think she was a 3D character. I think the skin of the cheek and nose is too even without any hint of pores.

personally i love the original the way it is. for a noob or paid pro, it rocks. i'd consider selling it to stock imagery website like gettyimages.com...lots of potential uses for an image like that.

I like the original because it looks surreal. Now if you want it to feel like real life then I would bring down the reds some and do as you did with lowering the opacity of the blurred layer.

Actually, it's not, not in the least.

I think they both look good. The second is a little more realistic, but they both work.

The sky is a little blown out, and if that is a result of your tuning with Levels/Curves, you should take care of that via adjustment layers/w layer masks.

Thre are three distinct areas of interest there. The reflection, the girl, and the background. Each should be treated completely seperate of the others. PUlling a little saturation out of the girl and sky will bring out the glasses. Pulling some from just the sky will make her entire head pop. Adjusting just the girl could emphasize both sky and glasses, Coloring the sky differently can bring around some nice color contrast, and so forth.

Without seeing how much visual information you had in the original though, it's hard to know how far you could puch it.

Thanks for the responses, guys. Just FYI, I'm going for that quasi-surreal "magazine model" look. Something that you might see in a brochure for sunglasses, for instance. I'm not looking for realism per say, but I'm not sure I've achieved my goal quite yet. The original pic is pretty good (shot with a Sony Cybershot), but it showed a lot of pores, and I wanted to get rid of them. I know I can definitely improve a lot, though.

The blown out sky was actually a lighting effect I added in Photoshop. The original is much more intact. I'll play around with that some more.

Pretty much everything in the pic is a different layer: the sky, the glasses, the face. All adjusted accordingly. I'll post some more tweaks later.

Hey man, they both look nice to me. I do like the second one better, where the skin is a bit porous, and shows more detail, while still be surrealistic. You should keep the nose ring though.

good job,
Jason

I'll play around with the nose piercing some more, see if I can get it a little more realistic looking (just did a quick shape with some bevel and shadow effects). Funny thing is that she used to have a nose piercing just like that (although it had a small diamond), but she took it out after a year because the area around it was constantly inflamed. Not good times. She liked the pic because she had a piercing that wasn't red all around, lol.

It's his girlfriend that "lives in Canada."

Quick someone name that reference.

I looked it up, but I never saw the referenced material so I don't feel so bad. I'll leave it there for someone else to answer.

Breakfast Club, lol

I don't know what others are looking at, but the origional image is awsome, great job.

completely overdone,

But it depends on what you are going for I guess,

This image has potential if you made it look realistic still.

I think it looks like a professional sunglasses print ad. I like the "plastic" look. Who wants their models to be realistic? I much prefer the image to be dreamlike or "ultra-real"

Hey....I was thinking the same thing. Aha!

Actually, I think the first one looks great. Very clean and polished.
