Photoshop elements HELP!!!

Hello,

I've got the full version of photoshop at home, but the school I teach at is only running elements.

What I'm trying to do is show the kids how to add muzzle flash on to their films, but when I export a frame from Premiere and open it in photoshop elements and add the flash, it will only open as 4:3 even tho the original footage was 16:9.

In the full version this is not a problem, but I can't figure out how to keep the aspect ration in elements.

Any help?

Thanks,
Brent

Yeah that's the problem... the pixel ration, but in Photoshop CS2 I can work with the "wide" pixels and it will save out fine. What I'm really looking to find out is if there is a way to do that with photoshop elements as I need to export the frame, add a muzzle flash and then input it back in. I'll try playing around with exporting the pixel ratio, but if anyone knows of a setting in elements that would be great.

thanks,
Brent

Here's how I would run at the problem. Create a new (custom) PS doc using these dimensions, 856 x 480. Then import the frame grab from Premiere and scale it to fill the frame. Create a new transparent layer in PS and paint in the muzzle flash in the appropriate position. Then delete the frame grab layer because it was needed for reference only. Then scale the PS image to 720 x 480 and save. Import the muzzle flash file into Premiere, interpret the footage as D1/DV NTSC widescreen 16:9 (1.2). Lay in the flash over 1 or 2 frames over the original shot and move on.

Note - Running at the problem by converting everything to square pixels is an old school method conjured up long before Photoshop had video presets.

Nailed it.

THanks,

What I ended up doing was exporting it from premiere with square pixels at 852 x 478 and I was able to edit it in ps and put it right back into the timeline.

thanks for all the help guys!
