i read about your project Mr Otis, its interesting. i wish you best of luck and achieve great success too..... when will it be released and whats your market are.

Thank you. I hope to manage a release by the end of year and deliver a few units in January/February. The main focus is on low budget filmmaking but I also get some interest from video artists and people who shoot commercials.

Otis, do you have a webpage for this camera with specs, pricing, and delivery information? Or is that in the works as well?

I promised myself to not do any official marketing unless I'm ready to actually take an order and deliver the camera shortly after the order. Only the thread TrueIndigo started in The New Guys part of dvxuser contains development information about Drama. You can find a preliminary specsheet here:

http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/attachment.php?attachmentid=15626&d=1266002994

The pricing target is 10,000 euro for a complete package. The body, 2x 8" monitors, a dual simultaneous charger, 5 hours of power in two batteries, 2 hours of 1920x1080 12bit 25p HDD recording, a normal f1.4 prime lens, cables etc.

thank you Mr Otis for your info. if possible release it in India also, after its initial order completion and deliveries in Europe. because India is also a big film making market. it produces nearly 950-1000 films a year. nearly 60% of movies produced and released in theaters are low budgeted films. so try your luck here also, it is pal region too. so no need to change any specs at all.
good day Mr Otis

I had some mail contact with him, since I collected some information on the drama project on my blog, but haven't heard from Otis since quite a while.
The last news was, that he was building a prototype with camera head and a separate recorder.

No idea what happened, or if the project is still alive.
It´s a pity, since I really appreciated his in depth kn knowledge in senor technology and the LTUs he made where quite promising.
Would love to have a chance to take the Drama for a test ride, but no dice I guess.

Fair enough. I'll look elsewhere... I believe he was also on another forum. DVinfo maybe. ?

It was http://www.cinematography.com

I miss Otis's insider knowledge on the reality of imaging technology -- I have had no contact with him since the thread was closed. My prediction (probably wrong!) if the project is still on-going: Otis is equipping a select few film makers to have some real world examples of what the camera can achieve. If the camera were openly made available for sell, these examples and the full technical specs of his testing would be put on a Drama website, allowing professional owner-operators to make buying decisions based on a complete description of the camera/system. I periodically Google for the possible website, but so far, no luck. Otis had worked very hard on the image LUTs (accurate film emulation), so if the camera project has stalled, maybe he is concentrating on licensing that instead?

The problem with Otis is that he's just a troll or simply a nut-case. He has been posting the same stuff on many forums since 2008 under various names. He has no means to make such a camera.

That is a bit unfair. Otis builds industrial machine vision systems for a living. Custom one off camera/software packages for industrial process monitoring. So he has the knowledge and skill necessary to build a decent camera. I doubt we will see mass production from him, but it is really all about the software package anyway. The cameras are available off the shelf from many sources if someone wants to build themselves one. From the still images he was posting just before he was banned, the image quality was looking very good and it could be a very competitive uncompressed 2k raw cinema camera at a prosumer price level. I for one am pulling for him to succeed.
