"I made a number of films for television and a number of films simply because I wanted to. Contrary to popular belief there's very little in common between filmmaking and photography. It's totally different. The only thing that is similar is composition. Apart from that it's entirely different in my opinion. Movie making is not about an image it's about how something fits with something else and that fits with something else and fits with something else. The photography, although very important in movie making, is absolutely secondary and that's a very big distinction."

But why is this surprising?
Of course they're different, one is an art, one is a craft.

I assume you mean photography is the "art" and film the "craft". I totally disagree. It's just harder to make 144000 frames of film into art than it is a single photograph.

good point...this will be a never ending debate...which one is harder?

video guys will say, there are so many things involved to be taken care of and everything has everything to do with anything...

photo guys will say, "you have 5 minutes to tell a story, I have one frame"...

However, to me, who has shot both photo and video for weddings...the work and preparations involved in video are just never-ending! But i love it! :D
