I need a flatbed scanner for old black and white photographs. Been looking online and I am totally overwhelmed by the all the mediocre to bad reviews out there, especially for Epson. It looks like a crapshoot for any brand you go with. Any recommendations?.
Thanks
I'm also an Epson guy... and I've been really happy with mine. I had an HP printer... and scanner... before the Epson, and I was unhappy with both of them. Now Epson is the first brand I'd consider, based on my own experience.
I've often used www.ezcouponshop.com (search or click "staples") and so far it's worked every time. I'd have never considered buying coupons before, but it's a no-brainer. That will make the V33 $67... or the Canon 210 $77.
Both of those scanners are rated at 4.5 out of 5 stars BTW... on both Amazon and Staples. As a guy with a bit of OCD, take my advice and don't get bogged down in the online reviews... and don't let the "entry level price" of either of these scanners scare you off. I'm using an Epson V350 Photo, which was in this price-range when new (it's OLD now)... and the results are very good. The thing I really like about Epson is the available adjustments at the time of scanning. You can quickly and easily make changes to a photo that are much harder and time consuming to make in photoshop later. If I had to replace my scanner I'd go with one of the two options above, and Staples would have it on my doorstep in less then 24 hours.
If you have slides or negatives then I'd get the Epson V330 Photo for $90 with free shipping from J&R Music World... as searched on Amazon, just a minute ago.
I've gone through a few scanners - Epsons are my fav. The software is professional and feature-packed, but you don't need to have a crazy beard and a weird smell to understand it.
