Phone Sound

Hey guys I have a question. I'm currently in post-production for my feature length film and I need a phone tone going through the phone. If some of you are confused what I basically need is the sound of the phone ringing through the phone. I was searching everywhere and I couldn't find it. Can anybody direct me to a place where I can get this? Thanks.

Re: Phone Sound

If you have access to a phone that has a headset capability, you can go to the local electronics store (Radio Shack will do) and get a phono-RCA converter. Feed the sound straight into the camera, while it's in record mode, and then mix it in post.

Sounds like a big deal, but it would work. I'm sure you can find the sound you need somewhere online though - this is a worst-case scenario fixit.

Re: Phone Sound

What about recording a phone conversation for a video? Can you use a cable to attach the headphone jack to a line-in or mic input?

Re: Phone Sound

Refer to my above post ;)

I have done this before, and it's worked fine. The problem was that I had to have the camera in playback/record mode, not shooting mode, so you wouldn't be able to film the actors at the same time. If there was a way you could convert the output to XLR however, this would be possible...

Re: Phone Sound

Sometimes the Keep-It-Simple mantra has to come into play. We did a corporate video "Charlie's Angels" spoof, and I was trying to wire the "Charlie" guy with an XLR mic off-camera and then I was going to bring it into post and equalize the sound out and make the "phone effect" and...

... and then one of the actresses said "why don't we just record him through the speakerphone?"

So I put a lavaliere next to the phone, and we played out the scene and it sounded perfect.
