Phone Service in Los Angeles

So I'm really not happy with my verizon service, I pretty much get service anywhere i am, but the phones suck as well as the customer service. I keep swearing to them that I will leave unless they get their "stuff" together. But I'm coming to realize that I'm not sure if anyone else has any better situations with any other phone services?
So any horror stories or great experiences anyone has to share?

I was so pissed off with Verizon (also here in L.A.) that I wrote to the CEO. He called me back. Nothing changed, but it calmed me down. Unfortunately, I've heard that no one has better coverage in L.A.

DO NOT GET T-MOBILE! Horrible coverage in LA. I can still get Verizon three stories underground.

We can talk for free Tommy :)

EDITED TO ADD: I thought AT&T was much better when it was still Cingular though

You have Verizon? You mean you haven't met that smug guy with glasses and 200 hundred people with hard hats standing at your door step ready to help?

Thing is, when you pose questions like this, you only hear from people who want to justify the decisions they have made. I am no differnt. I have SPRINT. I like them. They have anytime minutes that start at 7pm (unlike Verizon who is stuck at 9pm for some reason). Plus, their customer service is good. My only issue with SPRINT is that you need to watch your bill carefully. Every now and again, the charges seem 'weird'. So, you call them...they apologize...then offer you a better plan/deal.

Ever talk to a customer service rep and think they are telling you something that is too good to be true? I know, I know, not often...but I have SPRINT and I signed up for a plan where all Roaming is FREE. Now, when it comes to cell phones "roaming" has taken on several meanings...but as not one, but two customer service reps explained to me, THIS new and improved definition of the word "roaming" means that if I cannot get a SPRINT signal, I can switch my phone to ROAMING and if I then get a signal, I can make a call or text at no additional charge to my plan.

Well, this sounded too good to be true. Because that would mean that if you were a SPRINT customer you would be pretty much guaranteed to get a signal anywhere ANYONE got a signal...whether Verizon, T-Mobil, etc? This is why I didn't believe it. "Are you sure? It seems to me that a plan like that would be plastered all over the commercials? You'd get EVERYONE to bite...are you SURE???" It didn't make sense to me.

Well, a few weeks ago I had to go home to NY and came across a situation where I could not get a signal. SPRINT is generally pretty decent but I just couldn't get a signal. I switched my phone to ROAMING and lo and behold got a couple of bars, made my call and that was that. I checked my bill and didn't incur any extraneous charges. But, admittedly, I am still skeptical. Seems to me that they would definitely advertise the heck out of a plan like this. But, at this point, I'll chalk it up to horrible marketing and a good deal for me. So, far so good...

I use Verizon because it is the only one that works decently where I live. Also, their customer service (if needed) is very good. And the phone, in my opinion, do not suck. In fact, just last night I got bored and was checking out the new phones they have...I was pretty impressed.

For some reason I thought they used the same network. That's what someone told me.

Sprint and Nextel are the same thing now since sprint bought nextel i believe. I'm still really not sure on what im going to do. I'm a big apple guy so the iphone would be ideal but damn what an expensive bill! Man it really just seems like the lesser of evils right now.
