Phone cards and caller ID?

Got an issue with a scenario I am writting.

Do pre-paid phone cards show up on caller ID? If they do, what number shows up? Also, could the cops trace the call, through the phone card company's computer, by back tracking from where the call was recieved?

Any ideas?

Payphones are the way to go to commit various types of fraud/Prank Phone Calls. Untraceable.

What I am thinking is having the charactor use a pre-paid phone card at a phone booth. The problem is that she wants to hide her location (city and state) and I have seen payphone numbers, with area code, show up on caller ID. Which is not what she wants.

Yes *67 is the way to go because unless you call collect, prepaid phone cards still show up with a caller id 85-90% of the time.
