Phantom power not working???

I did a shoot the other day and the on-board mics worked fine. However, I couldn't get a hand held AKG 1000CS to work. I put a new 9v battery in it - no levels. I tried phantom power - no levels. This was on input 1. On Input 2 the levels were very low with your mouth right on the mic. This was with the level dials all the way up. I tried an AT Lavalier mic and it was basically the same - very low levels with a battery in the pack and no levels with phantom power on either channel.

The phantom power worked before on a previous shoot with a lavalier. I checked the Recording menu and all settings are OK. I suppose it could be a malfunction.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

don't have a dvx in front of me... but did you switch the front audio source switches to "mic" ?

If you mean setting Channel 1 & 2 to various input sources, yes, of course. I toggled between the internal built in mics, which work fine, and Inputs 1 & 2. If the mic uses a battery for phantom power, there is a signal, but it's very weak, even with the level controls all the way up.

Re: Phantom power not working???

My husband (Homer Simpson) misunderstood what you said and did not check the front of the camera until we took it into the shop and I checked it before the tech even looked at it, at which time, a rather loud "DOH!" could be heard throughout the shop. Needless to say, that mistake will never be made again.

Thanks again.

don't feel too bad, a pal of mine made the exact same mistake the first time he used the camera at an actual shoot ! boy he felt like an idiot. so did i actually, because i was there and couldn't help him. (i was still using the canon xl-1 back then and wasn't familiar with the dvx).
