Peter Jackson to shoot "The Hobbit" with Red Epic

Spiderman 4 also.

RED Epic will be the go to camera for 3D, I imagine. Perfect size and specs for stereo work.

Probably because of it's availability and because of the necessity to have digital cameras when doing 3D. Not that I really have any insight on the matter, but had it not been 3D I bet it would have been Panavision Millennium's or GoldII's being rocked on the seas. 3D needs lots and lots of cameras. Twice as much in fact... so is a production going to rent 16+ panavision genesis? F35? Alexa wasn't even out yet....RedOneMX cameras are digital, cheap, and abundant in quantity. It begins to get obvious! I'm not saying film is better than digital, but for a franchise and DP that have been film dependant in the past, going digital with Red... under restraining circumstances, it says it was a matter of circumstances.
