well, i'm starting a company (of sorts), dedicated to filmaking (helping up and comers, lending aid to expreienced people, and sponsoring our own films), and some videography work (not too much, i'm burned out on that for a while). at the moment, i'm in the process of getting equipment, and i've been reading this forum for a while and compileing a list; i'd appreciate any feedback on the list before i put forth the money.

so here it is:

camera:
Dvx100a (already have it and love it)
panasonic gs500 (backup camera)

still camera:
nikon D70

tripod:
at the moment i have a jury-rigged tripod that works but need to be replaced.
bogen 501 head
sticks unknown
others? (within 300-400 dollars)

mics:
at - 4073a (for outdoors)
oktava MK012 (the black one, for indoors)
Panasonic AG-MC100G XLR Microphone (possibly)

lights:
this catagory i'm unsure of; i have used lowell lightkits (omni/tota/caselight), and i'm rather fond of the caselight. i've also been rather impressed with what some "budget-busters" can do, so any assistance would be welcome. i've seen the amvona lights on ebay, and i've seen a little about them on these forums, but any confirmation would be weklcome.

the green light in the torture room is from a few 100 watt garage reflector lights, it looks surprisingly good.

misc:

high end editing system/laptop (havent researched yet) - no macs
firestore fs-4 (probably the 40 gb)
mabye a shoulder mount of sorts (havent researched this either)

i may build a dolly later when i have time (time to get handy)

so let me know what you think, i'm not going to buy all this at once, it is just a list of things that will be purchaced stedily until i have a nice pile of equipment.

thanks for looking,
-brad

i'm a pc guy through and through, although final cut is a great editing software, macs rub me the wrong way(i wish they would port it to PCs).

I think your equipment list is a VERY good list. The equipment you have/want will last a lifetime.

I would suggest going with a 503 head instead of the 501 head...for the few $$$ more, to me, it's a lot smoother...and since you can level the head easier independent of the tripod legs, set-up is a lot quicker.

If you're considering a PC based editing system, go with Avid. I've used Avid for a few products and was very pleased with the results. The learning curve is long, but Avid is a professional editor. I personally have FCP and love it.

thanks for the input. the 503 looks like a good alternative, though it is a little more expensive, i really like the ability to leve l the head independantly, i recently got to use a Sachtler tripod, which had that feature, and that boheamoth was awesome... so i may put in the extra money for a 503.

as for editing, i really like final cut too, but the mac interface is just unnatural for me (darn macs wont share like the PCs do), although i have used it in some telemedia classes with good results. unfortunaltely i've had no exposure to avid so i'd be starting from scratch with that; currently i like premiere, but there seems to always be a problem with the exporting process, so i often end up using vegas as well.

thanks,

This list presented lacks any grip equipment, hopefully this is just an oversight in the list preparation!
