Person dissapear in many pieces

I have seen this special effect a couple times and I like to create if it possible. The effect is, a person would slowly broken up into hundreds of pieces, floating, and then finally disappear. Thoses pieces would so emit light and different color as it is dissapearing. I wonder if I can create that effect inside of After Effects and using Particle Illusion. However, I'm not sure about the steps or procedure.

Help is appreciated.

im not a pro at this but have some knowledge and will give my 2 cents since no1 else has and this was posted weeks ago. lock the camera down so it doesnt move(dont have to but it gets complicated if you dont) now just shoot some footage with no actors. now shoot the scene again but with your actors. now in after effects lay the 2 shots over each other and roto scope the actor you want to disappear, then put a particul emiter effect to the mask you have created by roto scoping, then finally just stop the emiter in the frame u want and invert the mask so the actor disappears.

like i said im no pro, maybe some1 else can come in here and add to this.

Thanks for your response. I'd appreciated. I was thinking of along that line; however, I'm not sure if in AE there is a particle effects where the actor layer would emits light and break up in pieces.
