Permission Etc

Im sorry if this is the wrong place to post my questions but I looked at the other threads and wasnt too sure where to ask.

Im just wondering if anyone can help me with information on 'permission.'

I realise for locations you may need permission to film in that area but what about clearing it for use in your film??

Im also wondering about things like cars and phones, obviously you cant show the logos due to copywrite etc but what if you covered the logos up or kept them out of shot?

And things like getting police costumes, would my 'actors' be impersonating a police officer??? and therfore breaking the law?

What if my actors get hurt during filming?? is it my fault??

I realise I just slapped a load of questions on you lol but its the kinda questions im finding hard to find answers to.

If you can help me then :dankk2:

Protect yourself. Don't rely on anecdotal advice from virtual strangers on public forums. Consult an attorney. It's the only real way to be sure you're safe.

Good luck!

David,

This is a very broad question. I will try to give you some advice here,

You will need insurance on the film. If someone gets hurt, you are absolutely responsible. To think otherwise would not only be foolish, but dumb. You will need to have liability insurance for your production. This goes for renting equipment, props, and locking locations as well. This typically need 1million in coverage. And it is not cheap. Call an insurance company and they can help you. I don't understand most of it myself despite having family in the insurance industry explain it to me.

Getting film permits should allow you exhibition and use of the area. This should be covered in any agreement you sign or have set up. Cars and Phones and such are all protected by the company who's logo is on there. Basically to integrate a product, you will need clearance. Using a vendor will give you a prop including clearance. Essentially, if you use something without clearance, you can put yourself into a world of hurt. Even if you did nothing to harm the product, your film might not be something a company wants to be affiliated with. And they will kill you in court. Contact the company or a vendor.

In regards to police, you will need to clear the shoot with local officials. Everything else that goes with that - I actually don't have an answer for. Again, contact a props dealer.
