Perfect Movie Idea

Robbie Comeau

Como's back. back again
Thought of a GREAT end of the world type movie idea.

Basically it goes like this:

Crazy, creepy scientist is sick of the worlds evil. Killings, crazy people, you name it.

How does he fix it? Well, who is the most peaceful person? The Pope.

So, he designs a drugs that gets all 6 billion people, well 5,999,999,999 to be JUST like the pope. They talk like him, act like him, there ARE him...But then he gets poisoned (or somehow killed, but suicidal) and since it's the pope, the only suicidal way would be poison, without knowing (maybe someone is trying to kill him cause he's popular or something)

this leads to the whole world killing them selves.

Do you get the gist of it?

Can I make this into a 6 page short? PERFECT for twilight fest.

If not, it will be a 30 minute, or a feature length.

But I need some ideas on how to get this story to work.

Thanks,

Robbie

Really...

Like...really?

I'd go back to the writing board. And 30 minute shorts don't sell. Go for a short or a feature. Anything in the middle just doesn't do it.

I'm stunned...not that this wouldnt make me laugh, only because I'm a sick, twisted F*@K...but this is a really bad idea.

Eh?..........ummmmm?.........ok, then.

Eh?..........ummmmm?.........ok, then.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW what the f****** hell cat sh**, did i just read? No offense meant, (really) but that could use some work. Not that I'm the god of movies or anything, but that seems like more of a comedy then a twilightfest entry.
I honestly don't see that being a 6 min short, by any means. The idea could be amusing in it's own comical way, but not much more. If you did it seriously it wouldn't really work. I've had my share of poor ideas in the past so I really can't criticize, but keep working on that and maybe it could come out to something...somewhat....solid.
good luck with it.

the setup's ok: someone tries to "save the world" by a weird disease/drug/whatever to turn everyone into the Pope (or e.g. the Dalai Lama, there are several possible candidates) personality-wise. So everyone's wandering around with the Pope's personality, attitudes, beliefs etc, fine, there's a lot of potential there, e.g. what happens when everyone goes to church on sunday? Some stuff would need to be clarified, e.g. do people forget everything they once knew and so no one knows how to fly a plane or program a computer or bake cinnamon cookies etc?

but... just because the original Pope then dies for any reason, i don't see why anyone else will die too, that doesn't make sense. For a short especially, there are so many more logical dramatic things that could happen

I'll admit, I wasn't enamored of the idea as presented either. Clang offers an interesting point or two. I'd forget the whole suicide angle, and play on the "too many chiefs, not enough Indians" approach. On Sunday, everybody wants to conduct mass, and nobody wants to be in the congregation. In fact, why is there even a need for mass anymore? If everyone is like the Pope, then there's no one left to minister to.

Start with the theme "Watch what you wish for, because you just might get it." See where it takes you from there.

I agree, though -- it would be hard to do it well in 6 minutes on a micro budget. But hey, I admire your optimism at even considering the possibility. :)

I thought it was a funny idea... you should make a low budget low effort 5 minute short. No offense but i definitely wouldnt waste 30 minutes and definitely not 90 minutes watching the world turn into the pope.

Sounds like a pitch for 'The Happening 2: White Smoke' - when the entire population of Vatican City dies (by suicide) during/following a bio-terrorist attack (lv. 4 viral pathogen), bodies are burned in an attempt to curb the outbreak - including the Pope's. As the white smoke (sign of Pope's passing), along with the virus, is released into the atmosphere, strong winds (caused by global warming) carry it to every major city in the world. Billions of people, and animals (especially goats), are not only infected, but are being overcome with a strange, powerful desire to commit suicide in the heart of St. Peter's Square. Only one man in the world is left untouched - John Baptista, a recently divorced atheist and religious history professor in Munich, who was formerly a biochemist for the US military - and he takes it upon himself to get to the root of what exactly is causing the 'mass' suicides. To make matters worse, the weather in central Europe is going out of control, as flash floods, tornadoes, and ice storms ravage the coastal countries. Luckily for John, he encounters another person left uninfected - Mary St. Croix, a spunky nun who moonlighted as a meteorologist for the local university of her hometown. Together, they must find answers to some really wordy questions: Is it really the virus causing people to want to commit suicide, or is it something else, something more...sinister? Can they find a cure for a virus that is pretty much killing off all of the scientists and doctors and researchers that would be needed to develop it, in time to save a school bus full of preschoolers (who, miraculously, remain uninfected) heading towards the Vatican? Does the fact that they are : a) a man who is strictly non-religious and b) a woman who dedicates her entire life to the church, are the only two human beings left unaffected by the virus seem too unlikely to truly have happened by chance? Will they find the cure? Religion? Love?

***My apologies if this is offensive to anybody. It is SIMPLY AN IDEA and, more importantly, a light-hearted attempt at FARCE.:)***
