I don't really care about the peoples choice awards the Golden Globe Awards and The Oscars is all I care about but I wanted to see who won and the nominees. Some of the winners are just awful, Hunger Games over The Avengers and The Dark Knight for favorite movie, how the heck did that happen, Hunger Games was a terrible movie, the plot was weak and has been done in other and better movies, the plot is pretty much the same plot from the movie/novel Battle Royal. The Dark Knight was a much Superior movie to the Hunger Games. Why wasn't Lincoln or anything other movies that actually deserve an award nominated?

Actor I was ok with Robert Downey Jr won that, but Daniel Day Lewis deserves it more. Actress Jenifer Lawrence come on there was plenty of other better actress this movie year than Jenifer Lawrence, she was terrible in Hunger Games and any other movie she has been in.

That's all I am going to say because I could write about three pages. Thank god the real award shows are coming up, Oscars nominees are announced tomorrow.

I no longer care. I don't watch nor do I respect their choices from the Academy or any other group. I go by word of mouth these days from friends a.k.a recommendations as to what to watch. I don't even care who wins.

//Then again I've been told twice tonight I've been a "buzz kill". (I feel so much better now that I have self deprecated myself. ) Carry on. :)

I believe this shows you the difference between what audiences actually like and what you'd like them to like. This goes back to the "Remakes" thread.

(Also, I don't know if anyone would have called the Golden Globes "the real awards" 30 or even 20 years ago . . . )

Well if audiences want to see more movie like the Hunger Games then I am nervous to see what movies are going to be like in about 10 years. Also half the audience that votes on theses shows are teenagers who only vote for someone based on how they look.

Even taking a total departure from "industry perspective", you'd think that the Avengers or Dark Knight Rises would top the Hunger Games.

Yeah, Avengers and Dark Knight Rises was a lot better than Hunger Games, the movies was extremely boring very predictable, the dialogue was terrible and the camera was very shaky I got a headache five minutes into the movie plus during the fighting scenes you could barley tell what was going on.

The first Hunger Games book was decent, the second decent, the third not to my taste at all. It's supposed to be told from the perspective of someone that went through the iraq war (if they were to write a fiction book), I'm unsure of the authors personal experience in that area. The last book touches heavily on PTSD, depression, and the effects of war on the general populous. I say all this to give people a better idea of the cinematography choices (Katniss is one uncertain girl), and I really think they tried to induce that in the audience through the camera work and really overreached significantly.

I had to read the first book for class last years and hated it, I fell asleep while reading it and that never happens when I am reading a book, none of the characters were describes well enough to have any type of emotional connection to them and with the type of book/movie you need to have a emotional connection to a character that is being killed.

I've heard of the Hunger Games but have never seen it. It's never been recommended to me and I know nothing about it. So in that respect my method of listening to friends recommendations still appears to be working for the moment. And I include dvxusers recommendations in that as well.

That's funny because it's true. That would be the demographic most big budget movies are made for.I guess that's where the big money is. Kids and teens. Adults are last in line. :)

edit: There are exceptions like Tarantino, Eastwood, The Coen Brothers, Woody Allen ect for example that do well with adults.

I couldn't get through 10 minutes of Transformers. I'm almost embarrassed to say I watched The Hulk. Hearing "Hulk...Smash!" almost had me cutting my throat. Obviously aimed at selling toys to kids 8 and under.

Spielberg is usually does well with adults as well, the problem with todays film industry is its too much of a business now, it always been a business but now its all about who can make the most money through toys and stuff like that, not the actually movie. People don't care about the story anymore and its the same with most filmmakers these days. Movie like Lincoln, and Cloud Atlas actually do care about telling a story and both of them do a great job at it, but they are both overlooked by todays teens because it doesn't have someone like Jennifer Lawrence, or any other of these actors that teens like that can't act, or the plot is too confusing for them. We need movies like Lincoln and Cloud Atlas because that is what is going to keep the movie industry open.
