Hey anyone else run into having to mess with all the little flakes in every nook & cranny of your gear from a pelican case? Man it's like it snows in there.
Ive heard a few people have this problem, but I think its to do with more getting a bad batch of foam that wasnt cut correctly into the dice.. you can take a hot iron and press it against the inside of your cut out to "seal" the foam so it doesnt flake anymore, but you need to be carefull on temperature or you can make a big mess.
I think all pelican foam degrades over time. It may be a function of being foam. I've toyed with the idea of afixing a very nice quality cloth to the entire inside contour--in effect sealing the foam away under a barrier of silk or whatnot. Haven't come up with a practical and professional-looking solution yet, though.
The iron-thing--has any one tried it? I am concerned that it would get messy and create hard edges and points.
There are usually places around that sell denser "medical grade" foam that works alot better. I am probably going to try and get my hands on some of this. I also heard the tip that if you're cutting the foam, first get it soaked in water and then freeze it and use a serrated bread knife to cut it, then let it dry completely and apparently you get much better results which may delay the onset of the dreaded "pelican flake syndrome"
