Pelican Cases?

What would be a good pelican case for the dvx? The local camera shop has a 1500 case, but at 6 1/8" are they wide enough?

Re: Pelican Cases?

I like my 1550, almost went with the 1600 - I would recommend either of these - they fit well.

Re: Pelican Cases?

Shop at www.cases4less.com for an incredible variety of Pelican (and Dosko) cases, at great prices with cheap shipping.

The Dosko Sport Extra Large would have plenty of room for a DVX and accessories, and costs about $65 there.

Re: Pelican Cases?

1520 if you don't have a lot of accessories.

I had one 1520 and feel I'm outgrowing it..so we may go to a 1550.

Barry-

a few months back, I think you recommended another brand case, do you remember? just curious.

Anyone--

have you had a trouble with the Pelican Combo locks? My friend said you have to close the lock AT ALL TIMES, OTHERWISE IT MOVEs-- then the combo changes..WITHOUT YOU KNOWING WHAT IT IS... maybe it was just a bad lock, who knows. obviously, they seem well suited for the cases, but i would not want that happening to me.

Re: Pelican Cases?

I wish I could remember the brand name of some cases that are very similar to the Pelican cases, but I can't seem to remember.

They actually have a few improvements and better latches (that don't bust your knuckles), etc. and they're cheaper than Pelicans.

Seems like they used a monkey in their logo/artwork.

Does anyone know?

Re: Pelican Cases?

Not sure about the monkey, but Stormcase is probably the company you're refering to. High quality and just as durable cases but at a lower price. Their website can be found by clicking on this.

That same website Mr. Green mentioned above also sells Stormcases, located here.

Also, here's an article once you get your case and AG-DVX100(A): Pelican Article.

Re: Pelican Cases?

That foam template is great Oz! I'll be getting a Pelican case (or something of that nature) soon, I'm going to use the back end of your template, but I'll have to tweak the front to compensate for a mattebox and follow focus.

Re: Pelican Cases?

One suggestion, if youir new case comes with 'pluck foam', that square stuff that sheds everywhere. Find a supplier of hard and soft foam and replace it by layering with the soft foam towards the outside and then a layer of the hard(er) foam cut to the DVX's shape. Don't forget to include any accessories such as lenses, filters etc.

Re: Pelican Cases?

TC, let us know how that goes. I have a Chrosziel mattebox and follow-focus and found it difficult to arrange everything assembled in the case. I ended up keeping the mattebox off, but leaving the support rods and base on the camera. For one thing, the Pelican 1600 isn't deep enough (at least the last time I checked).

But with this setup, placing the mattebox on the rods was very quick.

Also, I found that the squares of the Pelican 1650 were somewhat larger than those on the Pelican 1600. Makes sense I guess, but this is something for you to keep in mind if you go to another sized case - my foam measurements may be off by a bit in that article, which was written based on the 1600.

I have a 1650 which serves me well in Tokyo - a place where you just about have to lug stuff to most places by train.

I'd like to find a much cheaper pelican-like thing. I think $200 is a lot for a case. I hear you can get a case the same size for about $25 at a place like Lowes.
