...Pelican case problem

NO CA$H

Veteran
I just got my pelican 1550 case from EVS today and I pick N Plucked the foam. I only did the top layer and when I close the case it feels like my DVX is being squshed in there. Is there a way to adjust it better?

you have to do both layers

I have the pelican 1550 as well and plucked both layers and it fits perfectly

make sure it's the right side up :)

I also have the 1550 and plucked both layers. It fits like a glove. It has a solid foam bottom so don’t worry, its safe.

Even with the 1600, both layers is perfect IMHO. Everything that matters is nice and snug, a few things could move 1/2 inch I suppose (batteries and cables). You want all the foam to be holding it, especially the sides. If you smash it in like a sandwich, ultimately it will be less protected. I should have pictures of mine as packed at the end of the week. (waiting on a couple of items before I cut any more holes.

When you say right-side-up, do you mean.... When you lay the case down and open it up, the top of the camera is facing you? That would mean when you're walking around with the case the camera is standing right-side-up. Yes?

I "plucked" through both layers on my 1550, and with the mic holder on the camera I had to lay the camera on it's "lcd" side with the handstrap up. I put the camera closer to the hinge of the case so when it's closed, and the handle of the case is up right, the camera is up as well. Has worked well for a year now.

It's cool NOCASH all our rental cameras are like that and they have survived daily rigors. Also, You can always slice a very thin layer of the foam you took out and lay it down on the bottom under the camera. I have done that before for decks and other flat hardware. Just use a long serrated kitchen knife (clean  ) and then point the uncut side up at the camera. Not really necessary for the camera tho

you can also use a chunk of foam to make a little form around the lens barrel to give a little more cush on the bottom if you want, but I wouldnt worry about it, as long as it doesnt move it will be fine, remember your camera made it all the way from japan in a hard styrofoam cardboard box.

I did the bottom layer and it does fit like a glove. I have one more question... in the pelican manual it says to glue the two layers together with some kind of spray on glue. Where would I buy that?
Thanks for the help

foam glue

foam glue

Use 3M 77 Spray Adhesive for the already plucked layers to keep it together. The foam insert will last alot longer. Make sure it is thoroughly dry before putting equipment back it or else you will be scraping the glue(which dries like a strong rubber cement.) off your gear. It does come right off though.

You can find spray-adhesive at any Home Depot, or similar store. 3M Super-77 is very effective. Be real careful controlling the spray, when you use it; it's a pain to clean up overspray.
