Pelican case 1600.

Hi to All.

I am going to buy a pelican 1600 case for my DVX100AE (after realizing in this forum that is the best choice to protect it) and before cutting the internal foam (acc. a nice fellow posting in this forum) I would like to ask, apart of the camera itself, what other things you tipically store in the case ? I mean batteries, charger, tapes, etc. Probably you can give me some ideas, then I arrange the foam shape to receive not only the cam centered but other stuff.

Thnanks a lot

Re: Pelican case 1600.

I have the 1600 and it is huge. To big for a carry on if you are going to travel with it. But it is a great case. I have alll the accessories plus extra batteries. Extra tapes, zoom control, And still more room. remember to go top to bottom rather than side to side. What I'm trying to say is think of your stuff standing up in the case insead of lying down, As long as it fits with the two pluck and pick foam layers. It will give you more room. 8)

Re: Pelican case 1600.

Do you mean that 1550 is enough ?

I saw always 1600 as a model that fits with DVX, and I do not like to have a huge box with a lot of empty space in !

Thanks for your advices

Re: Pelican case 1600.

Check out the 1520 with the 1527 soft case that comes inside it. I have this and it fits everything I need in it. Plus its a small case.

Re: Pelican case 1600.

Thanks Drew.

So with this 1520 + 1527 you can have inside the DVX100 ?

Seems to me that width of camera is very close to width of 1527 bag acc. specs. Please confirm me that you carry the panny dvx in such bag.

Thanks a lot (I have to buy it without trying this and I prefer to be sure)

Re: Pelican case 1600.

The 1520 case and the 1527 soft case are the things I use to get my DVX and stuff to where it needs to be. I'll try and get a picture of it in the next couple days if I can. But I have my DVX in the soft case that fits inside the hard case. I also have 5 batteries, 13 tapes, 3 filters, the charger, some lense cleaner and wipes, plus some left over space for a couple more batteries or some tapes or filters.

There might have been a picture of this case with the incase on this site before. Might go looking around here or you could just wait a couple of days for the pics. But I love this case because its small and fits everything I need in it.

Re: Pelican case 1600.

Thanks a lot Drew.

I believe you. Do not worry about pictures to evidence it. I was just to be sure and not order blindly. I will order it inmediately. Thanks so much !

Re: Pelican case 1600.

Its cool about the pictures. I was going to put some up of this new backpack I got for the DVX so I can take it up snowboarding with me. But this case kicks ass and I'm really glad I got it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine.

Re: Pelican case 1600.

Give it a couple days and I'll have some up of both the 1520 and the backpack.

Re: Pelican case 1600.

I am about to order a case real soon hopefully today or tomorrow.

I don't want any that is to big that I can't travel with or put in over head compartment I mean. So I have heard good things about the 1600 Pelican but I heard to that it is a large bulky case. What about the 1520 or the 1550? I would have the usuals...camera, tapes, charger, batteries, cables in there. I would like to add my Matte Box but that might be pushing it on the size of the 15 level cases. Like someone suggested on here, I want to be able to have my camera positioned upright inside of the case. Can you arrange the foam in such a way that will allow you to do that?

Re: Pelican case 1600.

With the 1550, if you put it "upright" (and by this, I'm assuming you mean "upright" in the sense of when you lay the case flat and open it up, the handle is on top), I don't think you'd have enough room, unless you want to sacrifice the "bottom" layer of padding. I tried to figure a way but ended up laying it on its side.

Re: Pelican case 1600.

according to the catalog that I have the 1550 is supposed to be 7 1/4 inches deep for the camera to sink down into once you remove the neccessary foam pieces.

Re: Pelican case 1600.

I just now tried it, and there is a *slight* but noticeable bulge in the top when it's closed and locked. The lid is pushing hard against the handle, and I don't feel comfortable with that at all.

I suppose you could dig a little out of the (non-perforated) third and bottom layer, but I wouldn't recommend it -- the padding would be pretty thin under the camera.

Re: Pelican case 1600.

Ok well, what do you reccommend (case) if I want to position the camera upright with the handle facing upwards? Do you have any issues with it on its side? I don't have a problem with that but I just didn't want to damage any of the buttons while its on its side. How much extra room do you have for other things with your camera on its side? You have the 1550 correct?

Re: Pelican case 1600.

OK, that's not what I thought you were asking. If it's upright when the handle is up, then it's on its side when you open the case -- and that's how I have it. The case case is fine for that. That's how I keep mine.

Re: Pelican case 1600.

okay, I just thought there was a way to place it in the case so when you open it up you can just grab the camera handle and pull it out of there instead of placing it on the side.
