pelican 1510

Charli

cool little "title"
I bought a pelican 1510 for my dvx, but am in the market for a hvx, what size
pelican case are you guys using for your hvx camera?

Thanks for your time.

If you plan on getting other things for it (lens's mattbox, spare cables, onboard monitor etc..) I have the 1630 and its PACKED!

I am using 2 pelican 1510 cases for my two new hvx's. I didn't try to squeeze a bunch of crap in there. Just the camera, 2 p2 slots, 3 battery slots (1 is 2 deep) and a remote slot.

It is a bit of a tight fit depth wise, but not bad, and its not huge if you are moving around a lot and as far as I have heard is the largest carry-on legal case there is from pelican.

I've got a Pelican 1600 for a hard case but I've carried the HVX onboard in a Porta Brace DV3U. I figured out a way to get my mattebox in there as well.

For local trips or trips that I don't need to carry the HVX onboard, I pack it all in either a Lowe Super Photo Trekker if I'm hiking or a Porta Brace DV02U that has plenty of room for everything I need.

The porta not's a hard case, though, is it Kevin? I'm putting my camera up
for sale this week.

I use a Pelican 1610. It is well beyond carry-on size, but I wanted extra room for accessories, and I love the wheels and pull-out handle. I got a screaming deal (~50% off) on it at Cases4Less.

No, the Porta Brace is a soft case. But for carrying around the field and on planes, it works fine.

I used to carry the 1600 all over the place but it was a major pain. So, unless I have to check the camera I always carry one of the Porta Brace bags or the Lowe Pro backpack.

Even if I had to check the camera in the 1600, I'd still take a soft side cause there's no way I can go anywhere basically carrying a suitcase. It just isn't practical.

I do believe porta brace also sells hard cases. I was seeing some on B&H about a month or so ago. They were running specials where you got an additional smaller hardcase as well. The prices ranged from 80-150ish. You might want to check around there.

The 1510 is a little tight, but adequate, for the HVX. However, it is the largest Pelican case that meets airline carry on restrictions, so I have one for travelling. Otherwise I use a Porta Brace DV02U. If you are not going to be flying with your Pelican, I would suggest one a little bigger than the 1510.

i am goin with the 1510, fine for airline, like said above, quite heavy to carry it around all time(leatned to hate the weight when we did 4 weeks of documentary-everyday without a car..call me hulk!), but it gives you a real safe feeling..for the Kata-i got it, dont wanna blame it, but its really not nice to carry this one around(ok, better then going with the pelicase), its just too big for my taste(no problm if you just carry it from car to your house, otherwise i find i bad designed..if you wanna be mobile, can compromise in safety(no hardcase)-get a nice backpack..!

Well, one needs to get the weels with the Kata, if not I agree it's very heavy.

Thats true,

but trusting that the hvx is fine with some shaking, i wouldnt go through town with it in a bago weels....i did it twice with the foamed pelican when i was really tired, and i always was sorry for my little fragile baby, i wouldnt do that again...sorry babe!
