Peli Vs. Storm cases

I just recently bought a pile of storm cases, as they were going cheap. Now I have them, they are WAY better than Peli. The catches are brilliant, you dont need a crowbar to open them, and you definatly dont need to be an athlete to close them. The finish is nicer, the moulding is nicer, the hinge looks better, handle is more comfortable.

They are just better in general than the peli.

So, if you need some tough peli type cases, get storm cases instead. Much better.

Agreed. Have put both through multiple airline trips together and both are indestructable. The storms are lighter in weight too if I remember right.

Both are definatly indestructable, either way, you wont break either case, but the storms are easier to use, catches are nicer etc.

Add me to the agreed list... Having stung my fingers on Peli cases for years now, I recently bought a mondo Storm case for my 35mm rig (iM3075). The catches have buttons on them which make releasing them SO much easier. Closing the latches is quite a bit easier as well.

Interesting side note though, Pelican recently acquired Hardigg which makes the Storm line of cases. Hope they keep the design...

Yeah some guy at the peli sand did do some spouting at me at the video expo about how storm were about to go under. I hope its just hot air, the cases are so much better. If they do go under, im buying up all the cases I can get my hands on... Got five small ones here for £25 each (70 in the shops) and they are great. Just fitting them out with foam for my lenses etc. Very nice little cases.

I agree with everyone's sentiments, but I recently had to buy a rolling Pelican to fit my 17" Panny monitor because Peli offers a lot more sizes than Storm. Of course the Peli case was heavy even when it's empty. Some how I cracked the extending handle the first week and Peli sent me the ENTIRE replacement assemby not just the handle. They didn't even want me to send in the broken part which I had taped up and still works fine.
But wait there's more..... turns out Peli sent me the WRONG replacement handle assembly. It was for the next model up. So they immediately send me the right one telling me not to bother returning the first one! Only took about 2 weeks turnaround.
Can't beat their customer service. I guess both Peli and Storm have lifetime warranties.

I have half a dozen of both. I agree with you, the Storms are cheaper, better latches and just feel "better" overall, although the Pelis are fine and get the job done.

I hope that Hardigg is still around, I would be bummed if there were only Pelis.

D

I opted for a stormcase for my hmc and I must say that it is built like a tank, never used a pelican case so I can't relate.

I didn't know that the cases were manufactured in different ways, Pelican uses plastic injection and Hardigg rotomodeling..... Maybe now that they are merging the pelican cases will be lighter.

Some news that I read over the internet when I googled for more info said that hardigg will continue with their current models. But you know, sometimes news are....well you know....

Just got my first Storm, with custom foam for the EX-1, from Abel. I have two other Pelis, including a giant one I use as a vault in the back of my SUV. What a PIA those latches are compared to the Storms. I never know if I'm gonna lose a finger opening or closing them:crybaby:

And yes, the seem a few ounces lighter than the Pelis

I love my Pelican case, as much of a heavy pain in the as$ it is--when you shut those latches you know they're shut. The noise they make is very authoritative. Mine's taken a lot of abuse and it's still as good as new, just with more character. Nothing too crazy, merely a bit of cavalier treatment in diverse environments. I just wish I'd gotten one with wheels.
