Peer-to-peer gear rentals

I'm trying to find out if a peer-to-peer gear rental platform would be viable for cameras, lenses, mics, accessories, etc. What do you guys think?

Would you rent your gear out to others if payments, shipping, and insurance was all taken care of? Would you rent gear from others if it was less expensive than a regular rental house?

There would need to be a social function where members receive positive or negative feedback based on their gear and treatment of it. But this does seem like a good idea.
 
I would not do that without enough liability protection to make it not very cost effective, and I'm not sure I would be comfortable renting from an unknown. Not when everything I need is readily available from reputable vendors already, and at reasonable prices. You would need some advantage to make your route worthwhile.
 
Thanks for the feedback. We've had similar concerns and are still working through a lot of the details.

For me personally, I have some gear that sits around most of the time and it would be great to generate some income from it -- assuming all of these concerns were met. Is anyone else in the same boat?
