Peephole Effect

What's the best way to get the peephole effect?

On set, or in post?

We don't have access to a fisheye lens (i should say we dont have money actually...)

We've had a few ideas... and read a few suggestions.. such as holding a wide angle lens backwards infront of the camera...

or adding the fisheye filter in FCP and maybe a vignette.

any other suggestions? I have to film 3 shots in a music video where we are looking through the peephole at a person waiting in the hall, knocking on the apartment door.

There are warping filters which probably would be better to use in post than trying to get anything in production. That way you can adjust the warpage to what you need that works.

what is macro mode?

we are using a RED btw..

Google is your friend.

A setting on a digital camera that enables users to focus on subjects close to the camera lens.
Macro mode is commonly used to photographing flowers, insects and other small items that you want a close-up view of.
The distance you can shoot in macro mode from will differ between cameras. Some may be able
to focus when the lens is less than an inch away from the subject, while others may be an inch or further.

you're shooting on a red and you don't know what macro is?

I feel bad for whoever is funding this project...
