PD170 Wide for DVX?

I have access to a wide angle adapter from a PD-170. Would this work on my DVX and if so, what adapter would I need to make it fit?

Thanks in advance-

Rick

I fear that it may not be very practical. The PD170 thread is 58mm and the DVX100 is 72mm. If you get a step down ring, you risk getting a lot of vignetting!

What's your application? Do you really need less the 4.5mm? Depending on your application, going lower then 4mm, you'll get a good deal of barrel distortion, might as well make this work to your advantage and go with a fish eye adapter. Budget permitting of course. Just a thought.

Well, its a green screen situation in a relatively small room. I want the actors/dancers to be at least 20 feet in front of the green screen but in this room there is only so far I can move the camera back. So, its a space saving issue. But, I really don't want the distortion. thanks for the thought though.

rlm7189 ,
I had a wide angle lens from my vx 1000, and I retro fitted it for my dvx100 and 100A, I got an old uv filter that has a 72 mm thread, took out the glass and I glued it to the outside of the original thread making sure that its centered properly. I used durable marine epoxy. There is a slight vignetting if you use the widest setting on the dvx but this won't be visible on the TV screen, this is also eliminated if you use letterbox.

Hope this helps.

hmm, thats pretty clever teddybear. but, this wide angle is not mine. so, i am not going to be able to F with it.

There are so many variables, no one can answer the question. What is the brand and model of the attachment. A wide converter designed for the Sony camcorder will surely vignette severely at wide angle. A wide attachment (non-zoom) by some other manufacturer could work, but a big maybe.

Hold the attachment to the front of the camera lens and see what ya get. If you like it, then figure a way to adapt it. If it doesnt give you something you can use, then there is no need to worry about how to adapt it.
