PCMCIA Adapter?

Question guys, I.m having trouble finding a laptop that still has PCMCIA on it [I want to buy a cheap laptop for field transfer...not editing at all]...is there a USB type device that lets me plug a P2 card into a laptop and mount it via USB or something?

Mark.

Short answer: the only USB PCMCIA/P2 adapters are the P2 Store or the Panasonic P2 Drive. No other USB adapter will work; they're not designed to handle 32-bit CardBus cards.

It's very easy to find laptops with PCMCIA on 'em, just don't look at Dell or Apple. Go with Sony, Gateway, Acer, Fujitsu, Toshiba, or most any other manufacturer. Lots of manufacturers are making 'em with both PCMCIA and ExpressCard.

Theoretically would it be possible to stream live from camera into a laptop via PCMCIA given the relevant lead could be made up ?

Or buy a used previous Apple model (Powerbook - Titanium or Aluminium) 15" or 17".
You can find great deals on those models because of Apple's processors switch to Intel.

Yup, that's what I did, and my 17" G4 PB swims along ingesting P2 mxf's just fine!
