I know it may not belong to this forum but I wanted to know what you guys think about this manner. I'm planning on purchasing a laptop. I eaither think of powerbook duo core or this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16834115226 laptop which is also duo core cpu.

I checked those new apple laptops in the apple store and the bottom of it is so hot that when I holded my finger there for 10 seconds I literally burned my finger. I don't want to get something that will be buring later on. I'm A SOund guy and I'm starting to work with pro-tools. Are PC really so bad for pro-tools??? I have a PC right now and pro-tools work fine with it. Please let me know what you think. Thank You

Most professional audio people that I know in NYC use a MAC with ProTools. I have 3 MACS for my editing work, so I'm going to say go with a MAC...

Just my opinion.

I can't stand Macs, all they are is marketing. NOTHING IS BETTER IN MAC SYSTEMS COMPARED TO PCs, THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THE OPERATING SYSTEM, and maybe their processors, but now that both can use Intel there's really no difference.

All we use at my school is PCs for protools, premiere, avid, ect. Even the whole animation lab is PCs (crappy PCs at that.), except for the teachers, but that's because he's obsessed with MACs (and bought it himself). The school has never had a problem with recording to ProTools on PC, I use Protools on a hybird set-up at home. Where I can switch the console and the 192 I/Os between a PC or a MAC, with one button. I stay in PC unless somebody that comes in wants to use MAC.
Windows is used in the real world more than MAC, any computer in a doctor's office, school, office, church, ect. will be a PC.

Protools works fine with either, my friend has protools for his pc, but he has to disable internet to get it to work (weird i know). Laptops get hot, all of them. I have heard the macbooks get bad hot though. Acer's seem iffy to me, when i was looking for a laptop, iwas going between a powerbook and acer, acer just didnt have all the inputs i wanted so i ended up going with the pbook.

My advice is go and play with each laptop, go back to the apple store, and try to do more rather than burn your finger. Go to a compusa and look for the acer, it will probably be there, or something very similar.

Protools should work with either, but in the end it should come to whatever you feel more comfortable with. I went mac for final cut pro, find your reasons and choose. When your spending 2000+ you are gonna get your money's worth either way.

And the macbook pro does give the option of bootcamp, that way you can have both pc and mac.

good luck

I prefer mac, mostly because OSX in my experience has always been way ahead of Windows XP as far as usability and it everything feels much more intuitive.

You know if you get a windows system and in a year upgrade to Windows Vista, you'll have something similar to a MAC os in a windows environment.

They both do the same thing at the end of the day with not one being superior to the other.

Choose which one works best for you
