Pc Vs Mac

I edit with premiere pro and my level is advanced. I understand premiere fully.
They are offering to get a new computer which will be used exclusively to edit.
Would you go mac or stay pc?
Please explain the reason of your choice
I have never ever used a mac.
I have a advanced level with pc, i know its insides and outsides like a marine knows his rifle

what would you do?
thanks!

Since you know Premiere and it's a PC only application and are "intimate" with PCs, why would you even consider mac? The days of macs superiority for running graphics and editing apps are long over. Everyone in my family except me has macs. They all have stability issues, which I've never had. Now if you want to run FCP then you gotta go mac, if not, I can't see any reason why you'd want to. Almost every other software I can think of has a PC version nowadays. Of course if you're hooking up to the internet there are less people writing viruses for macs, but with a good firewall, anti-virus software and a little diligence that's really a moot point.

The Mac v.s. PC debate is old and annoying. There are however occurrences such as this where it would beneficial to eigh the two. Its a pointless argument in the end because nobody is going to change their opinions about which they prefer over an online debate since people are comfortable with their familiar work-flow and will just defend it. I know people are going to object to my opinion on the matter but...its my opinion. First of all i don't know when macs ever had superiority for running graphics. I agree is rsbush if you are familiar with an NLE and don't believe you require anymore out of it and are satisfied with it why bother switching unless you want to be more in demand in the industry by knowing more programs. Although if you work for yourself than its whatever NLE work best with. Now that Intel macs have the capability to run xp I have a feeling that mac shot itself in the foot with osx because eventually people will realize windows is a much better os. Macs have stability problems in my experience as well. PC's have virus issues and stability problems when the user doesn't know how to use the computer properly. On the note of wanting to use FCP its a good NLE (probably the most comparable to premiere than any other NLE) but the mac OS doesn't make it as user friendly as Windows could. If you really wanted ot go the route of FCP you could always to a hack of osx and install it on the PC (only works on a separate physical hard drive) and run final cut pro on your non-mac PC! I might just do this one day for the hell of it. Basically i Feel and hope FCP and OSX wont do as well as it has been doing int he past this upcoming year. Also with premiere you can have shortcuts and keyboard layouts for avid express and final cut NLE. Now that's Sexy!

the difference between a mac and a pc is over....the way i see it....the only real differences is macs have cool layouts and nice cases....im running mac osx on my pc laptop...its a hacked version buts its only a matter of time until its out....when fcp and all other mac software is optimized for intel chips there will be no reason to ever buy a mac again...and of course mac osx is finally released for pc....mac will become a software company and an ipod pusher....

Why is this discussion up again ? it's been talked about for ages and i'm sure there are countless carcasses (sp?) of these same thread lying around for all to see.

Not true if you match up all the hardware components and software that come stock on each. It's an old, tired, untrue claim. But we are all intitled to believe whatever myths we wish to, rather than research the facts.

I agree with everyone who says the debate is old and tired.

Get what turns you on, save the debate something more interesting. It's really about your own personal experience with the tools and the hardware. Tools are personal and we should feel like we're one with them, in order to focus on the real work, the creative work. Personally I'm happy editing with my PowerMac G5 and Final Cut. I started on the Avid, but pure economics drew me to the Final Cut Pro camp. I know lots of people who are happy with the Avid. I know some who are happy with Vegas and Premier.

Viva le difference!

Well, as this thread will soon be closed, I'm not going to mention that, yes I have researched the facts, I don't want I-Life and with a faster dual proc, more memory, bigger hard drive, and faster GFX card, I can save about $1700 a Dual core mac. I have nothing against macs, just can't afford one, I use them all the time at work, and I have no real preference as to which OS I use, they both have their quriks and their benefits, but before you go and tell me that I didn't do my research why don't you do your own.

If you can hold of on your next comptuer upgrade untill the end of this year, DO SO.

So, you hear the Mac is great and could possibly get you better software with the FCP suite. OKAY, so you want to try it?

WAIT.

Its not because you have more expierence with the PC, or that the MAC is better.

Its because the Core 2 DUO will be available by the end of this year.

I have a feeling that Apple will be phasing out their G5 comptuers once the Core 2 Duo is available for them to put into a system.

Then you can decide if the cost of the hardware of a Dell (or whatever PC manufacture you like) with a Core 2 DUO Extreme is worth the cost savings (if there are any) over the new MAC G6 (or whatever the hell they want to call it.) Plus the costs of software and what not. Keep your ability to jump from system to system open.

Or if you are a penny pincher, just build yourself one. (Like me ;) )

When it comes to building hihgher end computers i find that you save a lot more than a few bucks and it really not worht buying from a manufacturer like dell or apple.

Me too. You can save a bunch of money - and you get the benefit of customizing your computer to be exactly how you like it.

I wanted a new thread as PC's change every day .... the duocore is an example
Thanks to all those that added useful info, to those like silverwolf or blaine that helped zero with their dumb replies about boring threads, do something better with your time...
