Do I get a powerbook or a pc laptop to edit video? Currently I own an older Dell desktop. I need to buy a laptop for some photography business I do with clients. I'd like to buy the laptop that would also work the best for editing the video, as I just bought my DVX100A.
I've been assuming an apple 17" powerbook was the best choice, despite the higher price tag.

Any suggestions?

I am certain that this could easily turn into a PC versus Apple argument, so let me try to redirect it toward really addressing the question.

I think that this question is best answered by considering what NLE you intend to use. If its Premier, Avid or Vegas, then you would choose a PC notebook. If its Final Cut, then a powerbook would be appropriate. Since you have a PC and you might want to share the application between both, this might cause you to lean to a PC.

It might be better for you to look at each application and choose the hardware that best fits your choice. Don't assume anything to begin with, just look at the options and make an informed decision.

Why don't you take advantage of the demo versions available for most of the major NLE programs and find an Apple computer to try out FCP before you make your decision. I completely agree that the software choice should dictate the hardware choice. Since I think khmuse answered your question and to prevent this from turning into the usual pointless PC/Mac debate, I'm locking the thread. If you have quesions about the individual NLE's, the specific NLE forums would be worth a visit.
