Paypal protection

Hey guys,

I've bought couple things thru dvxuser and so far I was lucky enough - so far no fraud.

But I want to sum what can I do if something goes wrong. Let's have common scenario:
1) I'll pay via paypal (not personal payment)
2) item does not arrive - am I protected?
3) item arrived but it is damaged - am I protected?
4) item arrived but it is something different - am I protected?

I could not find any suitable info. Paypal website says something like "you may be protected". Does anyone has some experience?

Thanks
Marek

Can't say for certain, but if you have a good standing with PayPal & have never filed a claim, then they won't even listen to the seller. They could send you a brand new DVX200 and you could say they sent you a box full of sand. Paypal is probably going to give you a full refund.

Maybe they've gotten better over the years, but this was my experience in 2011. Listed a tripod on eBay (and DVXUser), buyer only wanted the head & not the legs & offered to purchase out side of eBay. I sold the head, when he got it, he changed his mind. I said no refund, so he filed a claim with PayPal saying that it was broken & missing pieces.

I submitted pictures & a link to the DVXUser listing showing that the pieces he said were missing were never included in the first place (pan arm & clamp). Paypal sided with buyer, I called PayPal & a rep said to me on the phone "Yeah, we don't even read what sellers submit."

The guy had at least some honesty because he shipped the head back but not the quickrelease plate. I called PayPal again saying he didn't ship everything back, they said they wouldn't do anything until I "filed a police report and then submitted it to them." I e-mailed the buyer & he said he forgot about it and then sent the plate back.

(I realized that I wasn't being the easiest in not taking a return, but I sold the legs at a low price just to move them and was going to use the money to buy a different tripod. Getting the head back would leave me with a useless tripod head & no cash to buy the new one I wanted. But, I'm not Walmart and when I sell something, it's because I'm trying to get rid of it.)

Again, this was years ago, so maybe they actually try to hear both sides these days, but they might still blindly just follow whatever buyers claim.

EDIT: This all being said, I've bought & sold on DVXUser and always had good experiences. eBay users are the only place I've ever had troubles. But like any time I do things online, I try to have my BS-radar on, so to try to avoid any headaches.

Wow, that's not the experience I've had with PayPal at all. I had a number of buyer disputes filed, and prevailed on every single one of them. Wasn't about eBay, though.
