Paypal Nightmare!!!

Ok. I saw a sweet Gibson Les Paul on eBay. I bid. I lose. I contact the seller asking if they have any more or if they will take my higher bid. They take it. Keep in mind that I looked over and read EVERYTHING on the Ebay sight and NOTHING indicates it's a fake. I asked all the right questions. He even had a 97.8 feedback score. I send them my Paypal payment.

Turns out I'm checking out pictures online and I notice that the headstocks don't match up. I tried writing and they didn't respond. They told me they'd write me when it ships out. They haven't yet. I write them and tell them that, since the guitar hasn't shipped yet, I would rather just get my money back on the grounds that I think they're being dishonest. They send me a snide email saying it's already on it's way here. I figure I'll check it out, verify that it is indeed a fake, and then open a complaint to Papyal.

In case Paypal doesn't come through, does anyone know different ways to get my dough ($585) back? I don't like the whole "oh well, you live youl earn" horseshit adage that comes along after someone hears stories like this. I want to be able to buy something and not get f*&^ed. Don't you?

Thanks to all : )

lol

and 97.8 still means a lot of ppl gave neg feedback. I'd be very wary of anyone under 99.0. Not saying never, but be very wary ;)

The seller has had 2 negative feedback. Please note that his feedback is
"private" -- in future keep mind that is not a good thing. You WANT to see what
people are saying about them. My feedback is 100% (knock on wood) and I offer
a 100% money back guarantee -- always look for that on more expensive items.

You now need to contact Ebay and tell them this member has committed fraud.
That you have not received your item. Ebay prosecutes (item must sell up to $25)
to the fullest extent of the law. Because it was done outside of Ebay but through
PayPal -- I'm not sure how Ebay will handle this, though Paypal now belongs to
Ebay.

I have one item in dispute, a guy didn't give me my $15 filter (big spender that I am)
and this was outside of Ebay through Paypal,
and I want my money back. Raise Hell until you are heard and get your freakin'
money back or take them to court, fraud is a "criminal" offense -- remember,
they posted this item, marketed this item as one thing, if it is not as advertised,
that's fraud.

Hello everyone.. wow its been ages since i've posted anything on dvxuser. Nice to be back once in awhile. The reason why i am posting today is because the words "Pay Pal" caught my attention.

Mitch, if you paid via credit cards, you'll get your money back 100%. Even if PayPal sides with the other party. All you have to do is contact your credit card company and they will reverse it in 2 business days. I learned the hard way.

ALWAYS USE A CREDIT CARD WHEN PURCHASING ONLINE (not atm cards with logos but a real credit card)

especially with PayPal. PayPal don't care how long you've been with them or how loyal you are. Even if they side with you and the seller withdraws the money you sent from his PayPal account, you'll be out of luck. PayPal will not step up and say " we rule in your favor, the seller does not have money in his account so we are going to pay you back from our pocket". That will never happen. If you made the purchase through a credit card, PayPal knows you can easily dispute that charge and they will get a chargeback. PayPal will then have to deal with getting the money back from the seller.

good luck

Sid

Good luck, I have had NIGHTMARES with Paypal. Not with getting refunds however but with seizing funds and holding them for 180 days.

See: http://www.paypalsucks.com/

Like strancali said, if you used your credit card you should be ok.
Good luck.

Who did you buy the Les Paul from? I sold mine last year to a guy who seems to buy them and turn them around for a few more bucks later on down the road. I wonder if it was him.

in fact I sold it to pay for my Panasonic camera.

that sucks, but you can get your money back from paypal ... it just takes forever. I had a dispute that went from sept '05 to may '06

I used my CHASE Debit card. I figure since it's not exactly a "mom and pop" bank so it should hold up, right?

P.s I sold my first Les Paul for a DVX too.

Why would you buy a guitar online in the first place?

coming from a guitar player...dude..you gatta play the guitar first to see if you like the feel of it first. Pics dont cut it. I mean yeah it might show some damage marks...but you wanna examine it yourself in person to see EVERYTHING...neck alignment is a biggie, the frets might be flat topped instead of rounded off. THere are many variables involved when buying a guitar. There might be something you dislike about the guitar, then want to send it back and then they might not take refunds.

Dont buy them online...buy in the store like guitar center or sam ash..play it in the store for a really long time before you decide to purchase $500 is alot of money.

I dont know I have purchased several guitars including an Ibanez K7 at Musicians Friend.com and was really happy with them. However, I am not a very experienced player so playing it in the store would have done me no good. I would not buy online however on Ebay unless it was new. I also had good luck with Sam Ash.com

$585 for a Les Paul Custom and you thought it was legit? The Epiphone version costs more than that.

I bought my Schecter on ebay. Played em' enough in Sam ash, and got a good deal on one. Love the guitar.

HOLY CRAP!! I actually got my money back. I told CHASE what happened and they refunded the money the next day. They said all I had to do was prove that I shipped it back. Since the ***** lied about it being shipped in the first place, she just kept it after I got the refund. Get this, she actually accused ME of being the bad guy! She threatened to alert Paypal and stuff like that. I thought," You dumb slut, YOU SOLD THE FAKE GUITAR!" Anywho lesson learned, go through your bank and if it seems too good to be true blah, blah, blah......

Oh and that whole "why would you buy a guitar online argument" I disagree with. I have ordered DOZENZ of guitars online and everyone has played amazingly. What's difference it they ship it to a store or to your house? Nothing. It's the same guitar.

And the Les Paul Custom for $585? The chick kind of baited me and the other suckers in. She acted like she didn't know what she had. Kind of like when your grandma gets rid of a bunch of vintage STAR WARS toys because the grandkids are all grown up (true story). They just wanna get rid of it fast and they don't realize the value. Thought that was the case here. It wasn't.

It was my fault for not using better judgement, but I still don't think that ANYONE should get fu(^%ed out of their hard earned money. These people are assholes. Thieves are assholes.

You may wish to contact Paypal and smooth things out. It is my understanding that Paypal has been known to permanantely lock accounts of those who issue credit card chargebacks. And as much as I hate defending it, it makes sense, as they already sent the seller money, so if you chargeback, they are out the funds instead of you.

I've always had very good luck on ebay. But I almost never bid on anyone's auctions if they have lower than 99% positive feedback, unless it is a very small ticket item. And I would NEVER complete any transaction outside of ebay, unless I'm the seller (as I get paid before I ship). Moreover, I won't deal with anyone with private feedback...

What makes you think Paypal would be out of funds? They operate directly on a Credit/Debit system and make no money. They are simply a middle man. The transactions are either directly from your bank account, or directly from Paypal credit or a credit card. They don't control the purse strings, just how the purse is used. Does that make any sense? Hmmmm.
