payin' bills with a dvx

I'm soon to embark on a unemployment-inspired journey into the world of stock footage, demo and location videos. By this I mean I'm going to try to pay next month's rent with sites such as www.turnhere.com, www.expertvillage.com, www.revostock.com. Other than those (and I'm aware of www.revver.com), does anyone have any knowledge of sites that you can sell footage/videos to? Anyone have any real luck? I've got a friend who made $700 off of revver.com so I know profits are possible.

not to be a buzzkill or a killjoy, but i think that those resources are best used to supplement your income, not be the primary source of it. istockphoto or motion zone HD pay you by how often your clips are purchased. you could go weeks or months without a download. revver pays you on views as well, and i don;t know how tunr here works, but i don't see it paying out a small fortune. I may be wrong, and I encourage anyone to tell me i'm wrong with facts.
a lot of people on this board hav had to do the boring and mundane jobs unrelated to film or TV, just so they could continue producing film and TV. again i'm not saying you won't be able to do it, i'm just saying that chances are slim.
this board is about opinions, and this is mine...
either way let us know how it works out.

I just looked at revver briefly, isn't it more like an ad click thing than a stock footage thing?

My advice is to talk extensively with the stock house and see if they're a good match for your work and what you want to do with it.

Don't expect to bring in huge amounts of money right off the bat. It takes a while to get your footage into the system. I know if still stock photography they figure about two years for your images to make their way through the pipeline.

Shoot everything and anything. WHat you may think is mundane, is exactly what some ad agency in NY is looking for.

Shoot it better than anyone else. Cruise the stock houses and see what they have in the areas that interest you most. Then shoot it better than anything you've seen before.

Decide if you want to go Royalty Free or not. Do you want major company x to buy your footage for $35 then go on to use it in campaign after campaign and never get compensated again for it?

Decide if the return is worth it for your footage. If your footage is really good, why give it away?

Sell it on your own. Ask to be able to sell footage on your own while keeping the footage exclusive to them as the only third party. Why share 50% commission when you can get 100%? :)

I'm sure I can come up with allot of other advice but I have to keyword some new stock footage. :)

Yeah, its a tad ridiculous expecting to live off of internet-video income (well, the LEGAL kind, there were those dark years in the late '90's...). To be completely honest and hopefully without sounding like a spoiled little bag, I HATE the idea of working for someone else. Puttin 40 hours a week towards some rich dude/corporation for my shavings off the pie is a CRAPPY SETUP to how our world works. I'd rather work 40 getting stock footage and making HowTo videos. We'll see if it lasts, I expect to be defeated at some point. Thanks for all your inputs. If I can make enough to last me through the holidays, I'll be happy. After that there are some freelancing gigs I can do, and hopefully a new feature will be under my belt. Right now I have bills, rent to pay and a total of $32. I'll give an update at the end of the month, if I'm not on the street.
