passtrough function in DVX

I own the DVX100AE (PAL) and I got some Video 8 tapes NTSC(analogic) which I need to transfer to the PC and create then a NTSC project.

Since my DVX is PAL, will be possible the transference of the footage using the DVX as bridge to the PC ? or I need a DVX NTSC model ? I do not need to record in the DVX tape, only use DVX as bridge from a NTCS analog camera to the PC. Thanks a lot !

That's a good question. I would think your PAL DVX would be able to handle the NTSC signal. If it were recording to miniDV tape then there might be a problem, but since you're going through the camera there might not be any signal conversion. I could be wrong. Have you tried it to figure out if it would work? ;D

Ok, thanks for your comments.

BTW, I already did the test and... failed.

I was capable only to get in the PC the soundtrack, but image was black.

Seems that the PAL DVX does not allow to use it as a bridge for NTSC video, because the internal circuits are set for PAL signal ONLY.

I am going to buy a Canopus ADVC 100, which seems to be the best solution to get the analog NTSC signal on the PC (this box supports both PAL and NTSC signal with DV output in the best quality)

You're still going to need access to an NTSC camera (or deck) to play that footage into your capture card. No PAL camera can play NTSC tapes (that I'm aware of), although there are some decks (like the JVC BR-DV3000 and the Sony DSR-11) that can play back both NTSC and PAL formats. But not all can.

Any firewire card can capture both NTSC and PAL, but you will need an NTSC camera or deck playing the tapes so that your firewire card can capture the NTSC signal.
