Passport?

Hey, quick question.

Do I need a passport if I'm traveling state to state.

I remember in the news a while talking about passports or something?

Anyone know?

Thanks

Are you a U.S. citizen? If so, no.

The recent news dealt with travel to Mexico, and other parts of the Americas.

You don't need one for state-to-state travel. Just if you're leaving the country.

EDIT: You beat me to it, Ullanta.

I don't see why you would. You need one now for going to and from canada or mexico from the states. Maybe that's what you are thinking of.

I am. Whew.

Thanks for the quick response ullanta.

One less thing to worry about. :)

EDIT: Wow, you guys are fast.

But you may want to get yours anyway, because passports take a while; normal processing is like six weeks or something. So if you think you're going to need it someday in the next 10 years, better to get it now rather than to need it and find out that you can't get one quickly. I think even with expedited processing it still takes two weeks.

Don't get out of Texas much, huh, Troop? :)

nah. not since Imoved here 9 months ago.

I've only flown once before anyways, and I was two at the time.

Needless to say, I'm not looking forward to it. :crybaby:

No U.S. citizen has ever needed a passport to travel state-to-state (if "state" refers to individual U.S. states). Heck, until recently you could cross the border into Mexico and Canada without a passport.

But as Barry said, if you have any intention of traveling internationally in the next decade, you might as well go ahead and get a passport.

i wish i could get a passport, but they said something about a no fly list when i asked. :P
That's what they wanted you to think... I heard somewhere that they're a bunch of Raider-haters...

Actually there is a federal mandate for states to comply with a new ID standard to make state issued IDs less prone to forgery. Non-compliance will result in holders of naughty states' IDs unable to board commercial airliners and deny entry to federal buildings. Some states are fighting it. If you are in a naughty state then you might need a passport to fly from state to state unless you have your own aerial transport device.

You are right J Michael.

Next year the govt will begin issuing a national ID card. From what I understand the card will be tied into your drivers license.

Papers, papers, please.

You don't need a passport to get into Massachusetts but you do need one to get into city of Cambridge, the Peoples Republic of Cambridge as we like to call it.
