Passion: recut

Does anyone have any links/info on what/why he recut this? It's getting another theatrical release as well.

I'm not a religious person by any means whatsoever but I hate to see any artist cave in, whether it's Oliver Stone or Mel Gibson or Marilyn Manson.

OR, is he squeezing more money out of it?

I read whereas he wanted to offer a version that was less 'Horrific' than the original cut; less graphic in its portrayal.

I'm not thinking Mel needs that much more cash.

Agreed. And the more I think of it, the age of a lot of folks who would like to have seen it and were maybe put off by the violence don't fall into the DVD generation so another theatrical release with an eye toward a televised showing at some point makes sense.

It's like the "Director's Cut" in reverse I suppose.

They added shots of the nail going into the hand, even more flesh ripping off his skin, and his shoulder being dislocated. Just basically extremely graphic!!

In the new version, Christ pops his shoulder out of joint, manages to get off the cross and brings down holy fire on all evil doers. There's also an added Kung Fu scene with Jet Li.

Rumour has it the sequel has the 12 apostles robbing some casinos using an elaborate heist. There's supposed to be a scene where Christ walks through the fountains of Bellagio.

Crap, if I wasn't going before, I'm going to hell now.

There is no reason to make statements that just aren't true.
This has nothing to do with money, it has everything to do with a message.
Not everything is about making money. This film is amazing.

You can believe whatever you want, but dont be rude.

MikeysBistro - LMAO

MDfilms - If it has nothing to do with money then why isn't it free? Why don't they put free copies in the nightstands of hotel rooms? This is a Hollywood movie...why can't we be rude?

MDFilmds, I have to agree.

The first version does have a lot of violence agreed. But has anyone bothered to read what the bible says on this? (The Bible being the "script" for this movie...)

It states that Jesus was unrecognizable as a human being. Now in my mind that takes a large amount of violence to get to that point ?

Just my humble opinion, I could be wrong, not trying to diss anyone.

Thanks,
Derrick

Reservoir,

Aren't you banned? I have no problem talking about something but calling names does nothing.
This film is a message. This isn't like every other film, very different. So, I really dont think its ALL about money. You can feel how ever you want.

Guys, please try to be civil here. Discussing the film and marketing is cool, but dissing people or their religious beliefs isn't. I temporarily suspended reservoir before I even saw his post here and this only confirms my decision.

I don't think it's all about the money after all. I mean I would like to show it to my grandma but i don't think she can handle it. Maybe this re-cut will be a chance for her to see it because its really worth seeing...

You're right...this film isn't like every other film. This one has a worldwide theatrical gross of $600,000,000+...very different from most films.

So except for the box office, the DVD ($25), three different Passion Of The Christ CD's ($14 each), Passion the book by Mel ($25), Passion the coffee table picture book ($25), oh...don't forget that church's can buy in bulk with the "50-unit chuch pack" of DVD's (it even comes with a customized church slipcase), how about the Passion - Church Resource DVD ($25). I want the Officially Licensed Passion of the Christ Tear Bottle ($50) because it will match my Officially Licensed Passion of the Christ ring ($68). I think I'll order the Passion fitted tee ($18) for my mom as an Easter present. I'm having trouble finding the "I got the message, it's not about the money" discount anywhere.

The "message" I'm getting from this film is that Mel is making a crapload of money.

Money or not; Mel made a film that is artistically and commercially risky. I do not believe he set out to make money on this film. I believe it was a very personal project for him; he financed it himself I think? The fact that it went on to do the business it did is a testament to the power of the film no matter your beliefs. Film is a business and there is nothing wrong with making money on it. Isn't that the goal? To be an artist and make a living doing it?

I agree; if you can't keep your personal or biased feelings out of this conversation then stay out of it.

Let me clarify my stance on *Passion* once and for all in a civilized manner without offending anyone then feel free to lock this thread and throw away the key. I like the fact that Mel Gibson financed the film himself. That does show he was trying to tell a story and not manufacture emotion for the sake of a dollar!! However, I have been a little bitter because I think the movie caught a real bad case of *TITANIC* syndrome where it has been practically forced down the publics throat. I know it's a choice....see it or pass....but to me the whole thing seemed very contrived and forced. Having the film released again at Easter just reinforced *MY* feelings about it being all for money. That may or may not be true. Only time will tell. Like for instance if it gets a yearly release at Easter. That may be just a little suspicous. But when does art become exploitation and manipulation? I guess that was the point I was trying to make but failed earlier. I just don't want to get brainwashed like I did with *Titanic*. At the time I was a big supporter of the movie but looking back at it I feel we the public (and the Academy) may have been duped. Did it really deserve 11 Oscars? Was it really the best film of the year? Looking back in 2005...I don't think so. Titanic beat out *Good Will Hunting*, *LA Confidential*, *As Good as it Gets*, and *The Full Monty* for best picture. Most of those films are now considered to be modern classics, and what has Titanic become? From my experience....it's the laughing stock of the movie industry. Yes it made over a billion dollars and was a good flick but I think while we (The entire world) were all caught up in the hoopla we gave the film a little too much credit. I just think it is / was an OVERRATED movie. So that's where my Hollywood bitterness comes from. I guess I have developed a "Hollywood Blockbuster Defense Mechanism" against alot of movies that come out. I know I can't be the only one who feels like this?

So let me close in saying I'm sorry for making my earlier statements in such a negative manner. I tried very hard this time to express *MY* point and feelings in a more positive way, albeit very, very wordy. I would like to hear anyone else's opinion to see if we share any common ground. Thanks all!! ~reservoir~

I personally think Passion is a much better film than Titanic.

I also think Evil Dead 2 "dead by dawn" is one heck of a movie- funny as crap- overseen by many. It's great filmmaking too.

and I believe that Episdoe III WILL deliver!!!
