Passion in the Desert

Sad Max

Artful Dodger
Directed by Lavinia Currier, from the story by Honore de Balzac. Very surprised to find that this is apparently Currier's only theatrical film; you'd think someone capable of this would have gone on to do more.

Like this very much. Well put together, well cast, beautifully shot.

Meant to see it when it came out; the trailer was interesting...but it didn't last in theaters.

Anyone else seen it?

Yes, I have seen it, but did not like it so much. Cinematography was the best aspect of that movie imo, but the story and editing were a little annoying to me. There are better ways to express fascination with nature and just because we are smart does not necessarily mean we are wise.
The ending was just too much for me, definitely not the brightest idea.

Yes, the cinematography was #1, and the leopard herself was #2, for me. Thought the lead was well-cast, though.

I agree Max - camera work and the beast were masterpieces. Acting was OK. The story itself was the bad part imo, but still I wish we had a chance to see more movies like that, also to convince the masses cinematography is art, not just the cool stuff. Demand rules in America, while it also should be shaped by supply.

I think the story appealed more to me that it did to you...maybe because I'm a cat person...and a history buff.

It's true; the 'give-the-audience-what-they-want-and-we-think-they-want-what-ADD-afflicted-five-year-olds-want' attitude has put some real crud through the pipe, in large volumes. On the upside, it leads me to appreciate films like this, all the more, for their rarity.
