Partitioning an external HD

How do you go about partioning an external hard drive that already has files saved onto it?

Moving the files to another drive first or using special software like Partioning Magic I think.

move files you want... then if you are using win XP, right click on My Computer and goto Manage

From there select Disk Manager and goto the drive in question. You'll have to format/delete the current partition before creating fresh ones. Use NTFS so your file size can exceed 4GB too!

naa i got a MAC running Tiger 10.4.7

I usually use partition magic on a PC because it will reroute any file paths that are linked in case the drive letter changes.
