panny 16 9 lens stuck stripped threads

Stripped threads on the attachment screw on my Pan. 16:9 conversion lens, it is now stuck on my camera, i use it almost all of the time, but now it is stuck, and just spins freely without the mattebox holding it in place.
PLEASE HELP!

Re: panny 16 9 lens stuck stripped threads

Are you sure the threads are stripped? WHich threads do you mean, on the lens itself or on the screw on the 16:9 lens? Remember that you have to tighten the screw first to get the lens off.

Re: panny 16 9 lens stuck stripped threads

the plastic on the lens is stripped, so i cannot tighten and remove, or secure the lens

i have a thought to drill a new hole in order to rethread

do you know how this system works exactly? what exactly happens when you tighten the screw?

thank you for your help mate

Re: panny 16 9 lens stuck stripped threads

The way that the lens screws on is that there is an internal ring that screws onto the threads of the dvx. When you tighten the screw it will stop the actual lens from freely turning around this internal ring, thus allowing you to screw on/off the adapter. When you have tightened the adapter you (the inner ring is tight) you can then loosen the screw so that the lens can be adjusted to the right position. In order to get the lens off, you need to make sure that the screw is in tight so that the lens does no move over the internal ring, you should then be able to unscrew the lens. If your threads on the screw are stripped, I really can't see how you would get that off. i have heard of this happening before, usually due to overtightening the screw, but I did not hear how they got the adapter off. Try contacting Panasonic and see what they recommend. IF the adapter is still under warrantee you don't want to go drilling any holes in it, or you'll never get your money back.

Re: panny 16 9 lens stuck stripped threads

thanks again, the warranty period is over, hope of help from the Panasonic support is dubious

found a bunch of links from the past, damn stumped i am

i may try to sink a metal thred in, and a matching, new thumbscrew, hopefully that will work, i will wait to see if anyone comes to the rescue for a few days though first,

Jarred, you are my only hope

Re: panny 16 9 lens stuck stripped threads

I had the same problem. I ended up using on of those copper looking thumb screws that you use on the back of PC's to open them easier, and that worked great. It had a slighly different thread so the first time in was a bit hard, but after that was fine.

Re: panny 16 9 lens stuck stripped threads

mike

sorry, i'm a mac guy

are you saying that a larger thumbscrew worked after some careful screwing?

in the same hole?

i am thinking that it just needs to get a grip, then it will engage the camera and let me take it's ****ing little self off???

Re: panny 16 9 lens stuck stripped threads

Yes. Here is a link to the kind I am talking about:

Just slowly and carefully screw it in, you might need something to give you leverage, keep testing the friction to make sure you don't overtighten. An alternate method to get it off would be to push something long into the hole to catch the spinning machanism, but be very careful.

Wow, I grew up in Springfield. Graduate of Thurston H.S.

Maybe we should all start a Portland area DVX User's group..

Re: panny 16 9 lens stuck stripped threads

Got the screws today, and they work, thought there is a dubious looking crack forming from the hole. But, I can get the thing off and on! 10 of the screws came, so if anyone else wants one, send me your address: marloshui@hotmail.com

you'll get yours free
